Charles's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of King Charles "Chuck" Ayash. Known affectionately as Chuck, he was born on December 16th, 1932 and passed away on September 30th, 2024. Charles's life was characterized by his bold, loud, generous, caring, and joking nature. He was a king in his own right, brazen in the face of life's challenges, and left an unforgettable legacy that will never be replicated.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Joan Ayash, and his children: Charles Ayash Jr, Philip “Bud” Wordell, Sandra Lee Wiltfong, Donna Lynn Rusthoven, and Deborah Cornish. His joy was magnified by his grandchildren: Vincent Ayash, Alexander Ayash, Vivienne Ramirez, Shayan Cruz, Jason Hallock, Desery Uhor, Melissa Scofield, Tasha Cornish and late Jonathan Almeida. His sister, Lorraine Vieira, also survives him. He leaves many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Eva Ayash, his brothers Richard and Assad “Leo” Ayash, and his sister Geraldine Vaillancourt.
A devoted attendee of Saint Mary's Catholic Church and an active member of the International Order of Alhambra and Father Jeremiah Murphy Assembly. Charles was also on the board of Culture of Life Family Services, served as Grand Knight & Faithful Navigator of the 4th degree for his Knights of Columbus Council #4953, Traffic Commissioner of Escondido, and part of the local Fall River, MA school’s Glee Club. He was an avid book reader, particularly in the areas of politics and handwriting analysis. He would frequently urge those close to him to read his favorite political books and give an analysis of their handwriting. He was deeply committed to his community, raising funds for multiple charities, most notably for pro-life organizations and applying the lessons he held dear to his heart: hustle, gamble, and remain faithful.
Charles had a rich love for life that was reflected in his diverse interests. From playing blackjack to maintaining his yard, cheering on his favorite team, the San Diego Padres, or enjoying Arabic cuisine and his favorite drinks - Arak, Pacifico, and Heineken. His love for the music of Farid al-Atrash and staying updated with the national news were some of his cherished pastimes. Chicken Plus was one of his favorite local haunts, symbolic of his undying love for his city of Escondido.
His legacy is a testament to resilience and tenacity - a mantra of never giving up and never backing down. One of his greatest accomplishments was raising a loving family, a testament to his immeasurable capacity for love and kindness.
