Charles's obituary

Charles Arnold Ball, 95, born on September 11th, 1927 and most recently residing in Ringgold, GA, died on October 26, 2022 after a long and wonderful life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jean (Holt), as well as his parents, William and Nannie (Boatwright), his sister, Helen Sumner, his brothers, William Ball, Ray Ball, Ralph Ball, and Mack Ball, and grandson, Brandon. He is survived by his brother, Floyd Ball, of Dalton, GA, his sister-in-law, Flossie Ball, of Dalton, GA, his children, Jane B. Goodus (Rich) of Sun City Center, FL, Charles E. Ball (Cathy) of Jacksonville, FL, and Jan E. Ball of Ringgold, GA as well as granddaughters Angela Katona (Dan), Michele Goodus, Jennifer Dugan (Andrew), Marilee Lofton (Bo), Ashley Burgess, and eight great-grandchildren (Chyler, Olivia, Rosalie, Lila, Chloe, Emily, Eva, and Reid), and many nieces and nephews.

He was a proud veteran, having served in the Army-Air Force Signal Corps at the tail-end of World War II where he had been stationed in places like Morocco, France, and Germany. He also served in the Air National Guard at Dobbins AFB in the early 1950’s.

Mr. Ball worked at Lockheed-Martin in Marietta for nearly 40 years, having retired in 1988. He then worked part-time at Life University in Marietta in the early 2000s and also volunteered at the polls during elections in Cobb County.

He was an avid bowler, having enjoyed bowling in Lockheed leagues as well as Senior leagues in Marietta. He even once bowled a perfect 300 game.

He loved his Atlanta Braves and if there was a game on, he was watching. He was disappointed that they didn’t get to the World Series this year, but simply said “Just wait ‘til next year!” A true-blue fan, win or lose!

In recent years, he had been lovingly cared for at home by Hospice of Chattanooga, where all of his caregivers absolutely adored him, and he them.

He was a devout Christian man who was strong in his faith and his love for God.

To say that he will be missed would be a huge understatement.

A small, private service of remembrance will be held on Friday, November 4th, 2022 at 10:00 am in the Chapel at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home in Marietta, GA with interment following in their cemetery.
