Charlene "Charlene Johnston" Murphy, affectionately known as Charlene, was welcomed into heaven on April 21, 2025. Born on July 19, 1951, Charlene grew to be a woman of warmth, kindness, love, and care, as vibrant as her favorite color, yellow.
Charlene is survived by her husband, Thomas Murphy, whom she loved spending her recreational time with at their cabin, along with their dogs. She is also survived by her siblings; Elsie (Del) Grimm, Connie Shaffer, Karla Sheets, Kathryn Johnston, Irene Crafin, and Melvin Johnston. Charlene was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Bertha Johnston. She also mourned the loss of her brothers James, Edwin, Robert, John Fitzgerald, Mark Johnston, and sisters Virginia Newhouse, Florence Crawford, Sandra Woods, Jeannie Hernandez, as well as her in-laws Allan and Lois Murphy.
Charlene served as a history teacher for 40 years at Quaker Valley High School before retiring in 2010. She was dedicated to her students, who, along with her family and friends, will miss her dearly. Her teaching career stands as one of her greatest accomplishments, touching many lives in her community.
A woman of faith, Charlene attended the First Assembly of God Church and often shared her wisdom - the importance of prayer to one's higher power. She enjoyed a variety of life's pleasures, including stuffed mushrooms and steak, pink lemonade, The Raven (her favorite book), the music of Beach Boys, the movie 'The Green Mile', rooting for Pittsburgh Steelers, playing games like Scrabble and Spades, and watching performances like the Phantom of The Opera. Her ideal way to exercise was a peaceful walk, and she always looked forward to trips to her favorite vacation spot, Virginia Beach.
