Chanel's obituary

Ladies and Gentlemen, let's take a moment to remember and celebrate the unforgettable life of Chanel Renee Marson Goss, who, at the age of 45, departed from this world far too soon on August 27, 2024, while creating new memories in Florence, South Carolina.

Born on July 25, 1979, in Hartford, Connecticut, Chanel entered the world as a bundle of joy for her mother, Doreen Marson, and she never stopped lighting up every room she walked into. Her early years were a colorful mix of high kicks and harmonies –leading the Uptown Troops, a drill team, and the melody in the all-girls R&B group "3s A Crowd." After graduating from high school in 1997, Chanel pursued a career in the medical field as a surgical technologist. Shortly after this time, she moved to Atlanta, GA, with her children, Ji’Brayah and Jaylin. Being a mother was one of the most essential parts of Chanel’s life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. She later welcomed her son, Jahmari, in 2005. She was an excellent mom, supportive, militant, hilarious, and witty.

Her professional journey as a surgical technologist spanned over 25 years in some of the best hospitals around Metro Atlanta, including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Emory, and more. Her colleagues describe her as meticulous, passionate, and ready to go above and beyond. Her hands may have held surgical tools, but her heart held everyone she met.

In 2017, love at first sight struck when she was set up on a blind date by her best friend, Tasha, and met the man who would later become her husband, Mark Andrew Goss. They swiftly built a life together in Smyrna. On April 7, 2021, they sealed their love story, and the couple exchanged vows on the picturesque beach of St. Pete Beach, Florida, surrounded by their nearest and dearest loved ones and friends. They then settled in Florence, South Carolina, to construct their custom home and embark on the next chapter of their journey as husband and wife.

Over the years, the couple enjoyed dancing, singing and shared a mutual love for jazz to R&B music. Their home was always fragrant with cleanliness and love, and each room echoed with melodic tunes. You would often find a home-cooked meal from Caribbean and Soul Food. The couple frequently coordinated their outfits, donning their favorite designer brands and sporting matching short hairstyles as they enjoyed each other's company.

In 2019, Chanel joyfully welcomed her first grandchild, Jiselle Ashley Mann, earning her the endearing title of "Honey." They recently spent a memorable spring break picking strawberries and embarking on day trips to Myrtle Beach. Their bond was sewn together through their weekly FaceTime sessions, during which they would update each other on their latest adventures, sing, and talk about what was on their dinner menu.

Chanel embraced her Jamaican roots, and her sun-kissed beauty and island touch made her a vibrant soul who danced through life to the beat of Reggae music, connecting her to her heritage. She had a natural ability to spark up conversations with strangers and always extended a helping hand to neighbors and those in her community.

Preceding her in the afterlife, her beloved grandmother, Clarice Evadne Karjohn, with whom she shared a deep and special bond and a sister in-law Melinda Goss-Avent. She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Goss; her cherished children, Ji’Brayah Chanai, Jaylin Ti’Von, Jahmari Lee, and step-son Rashod Walters; her precious granddaughter, Jiselle Ashley Mann; her devoted mother, Doreen Marson; her sisters, Nichelle Spyke, De-Anne Mohammed and her brother Andre Harrington.

On her mother’s side, she leaves behind her aunts, Myrna Archer, Peggy Ogle, Pauline Cameron, and Lorna Reader; and her uncles, Neville Smith, Carlton Karjohn, Michael Ogle, Collin Ogle, and Gary Ogle.

On her husband's side, she is remembered by her sisters- and brothers-in-law: Tawanna Goss, Shawn Goss, Charles “Chucky” Fennell (Renee), Tonya Fears (Shareef), Dwayne Goss (Lakeisha), and Craig Avent (Melinda).

She is also survived by a large extended family, including a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends from around the world who adored her.

While her physical presence may be gone, her spirit, energy, and laughter will forever dance throughout our lives. She taught us to live boldly, love fiercely, and always find time for a good two-step.

A memorial service will be held in Atlanta, GA. Details will be shared as soon as they are finalized.

Here’s to Chanel, a woman who knew how to live life in full color and left a light trail wherever she went. She will be missed, but her melody will play on forever.
