Chandler's obituary

Chandler (Chad) Evan Holm passed away unexpectedly on December 9, 2020 at his home in Backus, Minnesota.

Chad entered this world in Rochester, Minnesota on Super Bowl Sunday, January 22, 1989. He attended Elton Hills Elementary School, Washington Elementary, Kellogg Middle School and graduated from Century High School in 2007. Chad was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran church in Rochester. After high school, Chad joined the Marines and headed to Camp Pendleton in San Diego. Chad later reflected on boot camp and said he learned one very important thing -- that he was capable of far more that he ever would have guessed. During his time in the Marines, he was diagnosed with Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome, a rare heart condition. After returning to Rochester, Chad enrolled in the Minnesota School of Business (MSB).

While attending school, the family, Chad and Butch worked to renovate a home for him. Before it was done, the house was taken down to the studs, the basement floor lowered by a foot, and a third floor added. Chad graduated from the MSB in October 2016 with a Bachelors Degree in IT. He held two jobs doing IT consulting before returning to Minnesota and moving to Backus to work for Mann Lake Inc. until his death.

Chad was a very curious person. He had a wide variety of interests including technology, home security, psychology, electronics, and cryptocurrency. He loved his cat Gulliver and they were constant companions for many years. Chad was a creative, out-of-the box thinker and was years ahead of others in his thinking about bitcoin and the where technology was headed. He was a proud member of Mensa International.

Chad was also a risk taker. He racked up a ton of stitches before he was 18 and made the house smell more than once with his experimentation. Some of his adventures (and misadventures) include skydiving, accidently hitting a car with his motorcycle and totaling it, joining the Marines, hiking/camping in the Idaho wilderness, driving half way across the country by himself, and traveling to Europe with his grandmother. Despite his own risk taking, he would often lecture people he was driving with about being safe.

He also loved life’s simple pleasures like playing video games with his sisters, bouncing on a trampoline with his cousins, Easter egg hunts, and watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Survivors include his parents Mark and Linda Holm, sisters Megan (Dave) Schroeder of Glenwood, Minnesota, Selena Holm and Courtney Holm of Rochester, Minnesota, grandparents Dennis and Julie Newman of Hackensack Minnesota, grandfather Robert Holm of Twin Falls, Idaho, aunts Kathy (Jim) Welsch of Red Wing, Minnesota and Kristen (Calvin) Keck of Jerome Idaho, and uncle Mike Holm of Pocatello Idaho.

Chad was proceeded in death by his grandmother Evelyn (Holm) Gabriel.

The family would like to raise awareness of the dangers of using medications containing lidocaine especially in people with Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome. Memorials can be directed to the SADS Foundation (https://www.sads.org/)
