Chad's obituary

✝️ In Loving Memory

Chadwick “Chad” Michael Tate

May 28, 1972 – September 3, 2025

Chadwick Michael Tate, age 53, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday September 3, 2025, following a brief and unexpected illness.

Born in Roanoke, Virginia, Chad later moved to Tampa, Florida, with his mother and family where he attended and graduated from Gaither High School in 1990. He went on to attend the University of South Florida and became a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity—a brotherhood that blessed him with lifelong friendships he cherished deeply.

Chad’s professional journey reflected his ambition, integrity, and heart for people. While working full-time at Capital One, Chad furthered his education, earning his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Phoenix. He began his career with Capital One where he was quickly recognized as a born leader and team player, eventually serving in leadership within Human Resources. He later was recruited by The Home Depot, where his natural gift for people and fostering relationships flourished. Starting as a store HR manager, Chad eventually became the Regional HR Manager, overseeing stores across seven states and Puerto Rico. He left a lasting imprint on countless lives through his mentorship, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping others grow.

Chad loved spending time with family at their Smith Mountain Lake home in his younger years, often expressing those being some of the best years of his life. He appreciated nature and especially loved the fall and winter seasons. He loved technology, photography and videography and was frequently known to be catching his family, or nature in action, and was also a licensed drone operator, a hobby he enjoyed thoroughly. This last year he was able to fulfill one of his lifelong dreams of visiting Alaska, a surprise from his wife Laura, and a trip that was more captivating than he even imagined.

A gifted speaker and encourager, Chad had a rare ability to truly connect with people. He co-owned Opening Doors Properties with his sister Carie and mother Diana prior to her passing in 2013. Chad thrived in running these family businesses with his sister and mother, a dream fulfilled by turning career into cherished family time. He was a confident and respected leader in the greater Charlotte real estate community. He served as President of the Metrolina Real Estate Investors Association of Charlotte, for several years and recently served as a coach for Fortune Builders, where he shared his deep knowledge of real estate investment with aspiring entrepreneurs.

Chad was a spiritual leader for his family and friends. His eloquence in prayer, his passion for God, and his servant heart shaped the way he lived and loved. He cared deeply for his family—never missing a birthday (he always made a special point to call or sing in person), school functions for his kids, niece and nephews, or gatherings of family and friends of any kind. He was an animated and skilled joke and story teller and loved sharing stories of days gone by with family and friends. He was a dedicated caregiver to his mother, and his beloved grandmother, “Mumur,” alongside his wife and sister, for many years until her passing in 2024. Chad had a rare gift for making each person feel valued and loved in every and any way possible.

But above all else, Chad loved his family deeply. He and his wife, Laura, were married for 18 years—a partnership grounded in faith, friendship, and love. They were truly best friends. Their bond was built on a beautiful balance of romance and humor. Chad was the proud father of two incredible children, who survive him: Madison (Wyatt), of Durham, NC—whom he admired for her curiosity, independence, and drive. He often told the story of how she seemed to become an adult overnight when she left for college—finding her own way, getting a job, even passing on a family vacation to meet a work commitment. He once said, “As a dad, no man is good enough for your little girl. But when I saw how well-matched she and Wyatt are, and how much he loves her, that was all that mattered. Now I love that kid like my own." Isaiah (Hannah), of Denver, NC—whom Chad admired for his athleticism, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit. He coached Isaiah through baseball, football, and wrestling, and often remarked with pride, “That is a good young man.” At just 14, Isaiah began working to save for his first car. He once took on a side hustle, and soon started paying his friends to help—earning profit while building leadership skills that made him a proud Dad. Another huge source of pride for Chad, included the manner in which Isaiah truly emulates him in his selfless generosity with his time, and eagerness to help his loved ones at a moment's notice.

Chad is survived by his devoted wife, Laura Tate; his sister and business partner, Carie Tate (Kristen); his children Madison Carr (Wyatt) and Isaiah Carr (Hannah); his nephews Camden and Jackson, and niece Lilly; his paternal grandmother Geraldine Tate; stepfather Jimmie Tickle, stepmother Vicky Tate, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving mother Diana Bevins Tickle, father Larry Tate, a beloved uncle Dennis Bevins; maternal grandparents Fairlene and Calvin Bevins; and his paternal grandfather Raymond Tate.

Chad will be missed tremendously. His gracious, joyful, and loving spirit will live on through those he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, mentorship, and love and was a blessing in the lives of all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Chad’s Life will be hosted by his family on October 4, 2025, from 4–6 p.m. at the Overlook Barn Venue, U.S. National Whitewater Center, Charlotte, NC, somewhere Chad loved to visit. Please kindly RSVP using the ‘Events’ link at the top of this page by September 19, 2025 if you plan to attend, as there will be dinner served.  Family and friends are encouraged to bring their memories and stories of their time with Chad to share. The family wishes to thank the many friends and family members who have reached out in sympathy and extended loving gestures in his memory since his passing.

Matthew 11: 28-30

Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.
