Dutch's obituary
It is with the heaviest of hearts and weepiest of eyes we announce the passing of Chad Daniel “Dutch” Swindells. A forever free spirit, Dutch was someone who could walk into a room of strangers and leave with ten new friends. As quick with a punchline as he was with a shoulder to cry on, he was the life of the room.
Born March 5, 1984 in Trenton, Ontario to parents Keith and Mary Swindells (nee Jennings), Chad spent his formative years growing up in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia. He loved being outdoors which translated to a passion for camping and riding the open road on his motorcycle. He later started work at Momentum IT Group in Halifax, was awarded the Initiative Drive Excellence Attitude Leadership Spirit (IDEALS) award and Diploma in Event Management at the Atlantic Canada Centre for Arts & Technology and taught riders at Safety Services Nova Scotia.
Dutch lived many lives during his time on this planet. From bartending to construction, music production to motorcycle repair, he never met a job he couldn’t conquer. In fact, there were very few skills Dutch had trouble mastering. Whether he was building sets for local theatre productions or diligently working away at flipping his house, he truly was a 'Dutch' of All Trades.
The first one to offer help and the last person to leave the party, Dutch was always there when you needed him, friend or stranger. He touched innumerable lives with his incorrigible nature and way with words. He was endlessly curious, insatiably hungry for new experiences, and pushed everyone he loved to be the best version of themselves.
Predeceased by his grandparents and mother, Chad is celebrated by his father Keith (Sharon), brother Christopher (Sonia), aunt Linda and best friend Laura (Lizzie) and numerous other family and friends. In honour of Dutch, please consider making a donation to the following organizations: The Youth Project, Habitat for Humanity, or Mental Health Nova Scotia. Dutch would also champion everyday acts of kindness: connect with a stranger, have a coffee with a neighbor or share a smile with a traveler along your way.
Dutch you will be greatly missed and if there are errors or omissions don't worry, we'll fix it in post.
