Chad's obituary

Chad Michael Dahl died unexpectedly in his home of Morganton, North Carolina on September 23rd. He was 49.

Chad had a passion for cuisine, animals and the poetic verse. He owned and ran a restaurant with his mom Jeanne in Scottsdale, AZ and his culinary path continued in North Carolina. Chad loved his dogs and disliked being apart from them. His poems moved many people whom were fortunate enough to read them. He shared his big heart, laughter, storytelling and quick wit with those he loved - often for hours on the phone.

Chad’s mom, sister and nephew were fortunate enough to spend his last days with him in Ireland, where they explored and laughed together. They will always have that precious time together.

He leaves behind his parents Jeanne and Ken Dahl, stepmother Kathy Dahl, sisters Tina Guthrie and Tracy Hanson, nephews Connor and Alex Guthrie, nieces Cassie Gemuenden and Rachael Hanson along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

As Chad says below in two of his poems our hearts will heal but today we are still full of tears.

Pen

A friend that I have that never lets me down

She never turns me away

Always listens when I have gone astray

Through my memories she will always live

To me she has nothing to give

In my tears she never lets me drown

She helps me vent

My veins run through hers

With her heart mine beats

Her blood dark as the night

With my hand she will not fight

She opens up and poetry we write

For Monty

That day

I woke up to a sunrise

That pinkish, bluish sky.

Wonderful

Cold weather on a February morning.

Shivery.

I knew today

My brother.

Broken hearts left behind.

Hearts can heal.

Memories

are fluid

Like tears turning into a river.

The great memories

The gut powered memories

My brother will always be there.

Memories

Infinite

A shiver I still feel

The overwhelming sadness

I feel

Tomorrow

Teardrops will stop flooding the river.

A brother I loved

A man will be so missed

Tear drops run dry I have used them all.

I ran out of tears today

My heart will heal.

Half my heart

Belongs

To a family of three.
