Chacko's obituary
Chacko T. Abraham passed out of this life on November 30, 2022, while in home hospice care with his family.
He was born 92 years ago in Kerala, India. One of 12 children, Chacko was raised in the CSI Christian tradition. He would later join the Presbyterian Church of Mt. Kisco where he was a longtime member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher.
Chacko always had a drive for academic excellence and was often at the top of his class. He completed his masters in mathematics in Mombai, India and in 1958 traveled to the United States to do his postgraduate work at Boston University and Columbia University. It was not long before he was recruited by IBM where he worked for 40 years doing logistics research at the TJ Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. Some of his accomplishments included mathematical models for planning and scheduling in manufacturing systems. His work resulted in publications in scientific journals in his field and patents for IBM. He traveled abroad for meetings and to present papers in countries that included: Germany, France, Italy, and Japan.
Chacko married Susan, also from Kerala, who joined her husband in 1959. He took pride in home projects and work around the house and enjoyed using time off for family vacations.
The patriarch of his family in the United States, Chacko often hosted family members, helping them to get established in this country. He and Susan often made their home a hub for extended family, and he enjoyed life-long, close relationships with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Chacko is survived by his devoted wife, Susan; his three sons, Jacob, Benjamin, and Paul; and Jacob’s wife, Tracy and their child Leo.
