Celeste's obituary
CELESTE AMELIA JAMISON, was born to the late Oscar and Sarah Bishop, on June 25, 1922 in Harford County. She was the oldest children of which four preceded her in death, Hortcnse Bishop, Paul Bishop, George Bishop and Arcina Benn-White. On the morning of March 14, 2000, God reached down to get another angel and Celeste answered the call.
Celeste started her schooling at the one room school house on Gravel Hill and graduated the 7th grade. She also graduated from Union United Methodists School, and The Colored High School of Harford Count. She also attended Bowie State College for one year. She met and married George Arthur Jamison, to whom she was married 33 years until his death in 1971. From this love union six children were born three boys and three girls.
She was a domestic engineer weekends while high school. She also worked at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and later Perry Point in Dietetics, until moving to Chester, Pennsylvania. She received Christ at an early age and became a member of St. James A.M.E. Church Gravel Hill. She also attended Fairview A.M.E. Church while living in Forest Hill. After moving to Chester, Pennsylvania. She joined Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church.
Celeste was the neighborhood Mom. All the children loved her, and she loved them. They came to the house everyday; she listen to their problems and give what advice she could. She never turned anyone away from her door; "She said," "You never know when the Lord will come knocking."
In 1958 she began failing while walking. She read many medical books and diagnosed her own illness which was confirmed by doctors, that she had multiple sclerosis. She was up and down for many years.
She became wheelchair bound in the late 60's and bed ridden in the late 70's, but never, ever complained; "She was a rock."
She is survived by all her children, Arnold E. Jamison of Texarkana, Texas, George W. Jamison of Chester, Pa, Carol Ann Smith of Aberdeen, Maryland, Jeannette L. Griffin of Aberdeen, Maryland, and her youngest daughter and life long companion and care giver for over 30 years Victoria Marie Hoffman of Chester, Pennsylvania and Charles Jamison of Havre de Grace; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Oscar Bishop of Edgewood, Maryland, Eugene Bishop of Churchville, Maryland, Albert Bishop of Baltimore, Maryland and Ronald Bishop of Havre de Grace, Maryland; 4 sisters, Geraldine Hague of Havre de Grace, Maryland, Alberta Purnell of Cambridge, Maryland, Grace Bond of Jarrettsville, Maryland, and Dorothy Hall of Baltimore, Maryland; 4 sisters in-laws; 3 brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
