Cecilia's obituary
Cecilia “Sam” Angelia Platten Whitehurst was released from the pain of cancer on April 23, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was a devoted mother who loved her family and God without reservation.
Born in Paris, TX October 26, 1949 to Edward Joseph Platten and Melvaleene Rae Platten (Mitchell), Cecilia’s greatest pleasure in life was sharing and helping others. She always advocated for anyone who needed help, from family to strangers. She adored rescuing and caring for animals, and spoiling her beloved grandchildren. Cecilia loved traveling and was happiest when on road trips with her family, delighting at new sights and experiences. She looked for joy in everything she did, and even a trip to a grocery store could become an adventure. She was always genuinely happy to hear the mundane details of your day and loved long phone calls with friends and family. Her presence was monumental and her loss is felt by many.
Cecilia is survived by her husband, Bill Whitehurst, daughter, Angie (Andrew) Morris, granddaughters Lily and Luna, brother Marc Platten, niece Racheal (Rob) Prutch, nephew Shane (Annessa) Platten, great nieces Cecilia and Caroline, and the Lopez family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Edward Platten, half siblings Geraldine and Edward Platten Jr., aunts Lillian Marie Garrett, Clara Gardiner, Cousin Sue Garrett, and dear friends Edna Lopez and Glenice Stanford.
A celebration of life will be held at Greenwood Chapel 3100 White Settlement Road Fort Worth, TX 76107
