Ceci's obituary

Cecile “Ceci” Verret, age 76, passed away peacefully January 18, 2021. She was born March 2, 1944 in Durham, North Carolina to Joseph D. and Kathleen Mayers, Sr. On November 19, 1966, she married Frank J. Verret, Sr., the love of her life and they went on to have four children together, sons, Frank Jr., Brandon, and Francis, and her only daughter, Britti.

After graduating from Lafayette High School in 1962, Ceci attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha and studied Education. Her love for helping children was remarkable.

Ceci was an integral part of the Lafayette Chapter of the Rape Crisis Center. She was the ultimate child advocate. Ceci was instrumental in bringing Court Appointed Special Assistant Teen Court to Lafayette, for which she served as an Administrative Director. In 1997, she received a Career Achievement Award, given to women who represent the epitome of professional achievement. As the original founder and Executive Director of Stuller Place, a children's advocacy center, she dedicated her life to making the lives of children safer. She was also an active member in the local D.A.R.E. program and worked alongside the Lafayette Police Department. She was the coordinator of Lafayette's National Night Out, a parrish-wide effort to promote crime prevention and drug awareness.

Ceci had a profound effect on everyone she met, immediately making them feel like a part of her family. Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Ceci was predeceased by her father, Joseph “Grumpy” D. Mayers, Sr., her mother, Kathleen “Kitty Kat” Mayers and her youngest brother, Jerome Mayers. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Frank J. Verret, Sr., sons, Frank, Jr. (Karen), Brandon (Stephanie), Francis (Meg), and daughter, Britti (Jennifer). She will also be forever remembered by her nine grandchildren, Cassandra, Camielle, Frank, III, Bryce, Gabe, Liam, Eva, Bret, and Leah.

A Celebration of Ceci's life, for all of her friends, will take place at a later date, to be determined.

Memorial donations in memory of Ceci may be made to Children's Defense Fund @ childrensdefense.org.

"PEACE. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart." -Unknown
