Cecelia Anne "Cecil" Strompolos (Kemp), age 71, passed away on December 8, 2025, in Palmer, Alaska. Born on January 27, 1954, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Cecil was known for her professionalism, goal-oriented nature, independence and strong will with a determination to live life her way on her terms. The infectious belly laugh and sharp sense of humor are unforgettable. Her adventurous spirit led her across states and cultures as she sought new ways to serve others and enrich her own life with meaningful experiences.
Cecil pursued her passion for healthcare with excellence. Her professional life was devoted to service through the United States Public Health Service and Indian Health Services (IHS). For over two decades, Cecil served as a Case Manager at the Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Her work took her across the country —from Fairbanks and Hawaii to Shiprock, Arizona—before she ultimately settled in Gallup, New Mexico for the final six years of her career. There, she made lasting contributions as a Diabetic Educator by helping develop guidelines tailored to assist the Navajo diabetic population. Her efforts extended beyond clinical care; she played a key role in establishing the Community Garden in Gallup to promote healthier eating habits within the community.
Those who knew Cecil will remember not only her professional accomplishments, but also her thoughtfulness and caring nature. Growing up alongside her siblings created countless cherished memories that remained close to her heart throughout her life. Cecil was adventurous by nature a wanderlust soul forever seeking new horizons. On December 8th she embarked on her final journey. Take comfort in knowing that she was swooped up into the arms of angels where Heaven awaited her arrival.Cecil's legacy is one of healing and hope.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: daughters Julia Strompolos of Raleigh, North Carolina; Frieda Strompolos-Riggs and husband Adam Riggs of Colorado; Sarah Strompolos of Tampa, Florida; Hannah Manheimer and husband Chad Freer of Palmer, Alaska; Soul Sister Annmarie Mayer of Anchorage, Alaska. Her grandchildren-Taylor, Jordan, Nadia, Hallie, Audrina, Evan, Joel, Zoe, Ruby , Famma, Odie, Sweetpea & —and great-grandchildren- Eyan, Leighton, Sawyer, and Milly. Her family were sources of immense pride and joy. She was also blessed with many nieces and nephews who held special places in her heart. Cecil is mourned by her siblings: Kathryne Kemp of Eufaula, Oklahoma; Steve Kemp of Antlers, Oklahoma; Jean Wietelman of Guthrie, Oklahoma.. She now joins those who preceded her in death: her beloved life partner Joel Manheimer; daughter Brande Michelle Johnson Hamilton; brothers Donald Harlan and Danny Harlan; sisters Gwendolyn Kemp and Yvonne Galliers; father Donald Ray Kemp; and mother Ethel Floyd Kemp Wilson.
