Catherine's obituary
Born in Hoboken, NJ, Kitty was raised in Haskell, NJ and attended Saint Francis Elementary School and Lakeland High School. She graduated from William Paterson University in 1968 and then began her lifelong career as an elementary school teacher in Ringwood, NJ. Kitty taught for 40 years at Robert Erskine and EG Hewitt schools where she was loved and adorned by both students and fellow educators.
Kitty was a resident of West Milford for almost 50 years where she and her husband Thomas attended Echo Lake Baptist Church. Kitty was active in church activities and enjoyed teaching bible classes. Her hobbies were singing in the Wayne Community Chorus, going to the beach, and annual summer vacations at the NJ shore with her best friend Elizabeth Rudolph.
Kitty was predeceased by her loving parents, Earl William Bennett and Catherine Bennett of Haskell, NJ. Her survivors include her devoted husband Thomas Porter of West Milford, loving brother Michael Bennett of Okinawa, Japan, nephew Christopher Bennett of Washington, niece Mariko Matsumoto of Japan, and countless friends and former students. Words cannot describe how deeply Kitty will be missed.
A memorial scholarship will be created in her name in order to continue her lifelong passion for education. In the meantime memorial donations can be made to William Paterson University at https://wpconnect.wpunj.edu/a…
Due to COVID-19 concerns, a memorial service will be postponed until further notice.
