Catherine's obituary
Catherine “Katie” Elizabeth O’Connor, 65 of Lynbrook New York passed away on Friday June 16, 2023.
The funeral service will be held Friday June 23, 2023 at 9:45am at Our Lady of Peace Church. Visitation will be held at Flinch and Bruns Funeral Home Thursday June 22, 2023 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
Catherine was born in Manhattan NY at the French Polyclinic Hospital on October 31, 1957 to Charles Edward Kelly and Margaret Kelly (O’Donnell). She enjoyed her early childhood in Astoria Queens with siblings Charles, Christopher and Agnes. She graduated from St. Agnes High School, and continued on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from Hunter College, and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from C.W. Post.
Catherine was married to Carey O’Connor on September 13th, 1986 and they were married for 36 years.
Catherine worked as the Office Manager for Hewitt Associates for several years before transitioning to an over 20 year career in Catholic education at Holy Name of Mary School teaching Nursery, Pre-K and concluding her career at Holy Name as the school librarian, and play director. She enjoyed Broadway shows, reading, the beach, mahjong, and supporting her children’s academic and athletic ambitions.
Catherine is survived by her husband Carey, her son Christopher and wife Lauren, her daughter Emma, her grandchildren Devin and Patrick, her brother Charles, and other family and friends.
Catherine is preceded in death by her father Charles Edward Kelly, her mother Margaret Kelly, her brother Christopher, her sister Agnes and her husband Richard Mattis.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Holy Name of Mary Music and Drama program.
