Cassandra's obituary

Elder Cassandra N. White-Rivers Book of Life

A beautiful garden now stands alone, missing the one who nurtured it, but now she is gone. Her flowers still bloom, and the sun still shines, but the rain is like tear drops for the ones left behind. She loved every flower, even some that were weeds, so much love she would plant with each little seed. So, when you start missing "me", remember if you just wait, when God has a spot in His garden, she will meet you at the gate.

A Time to be Born

Elder Cassandra Novella White was affectionately known to her family and friends as "Cassie" and to others as "Moms." Cassandra was born on November 20, 1961, to the late Frederick Rasfealt White, Sr and Julia Lee White in Washington, DC. Cassandra was the youngest and only daughter of six children. Her life was filled with the love and faith of family and many friends.

Cassandra peacefully transitioned after a long history of this life to glory on Sunday, March 20, 2022, ending her earthly journey, and beginning her final rest at home with God. You may have known Cassandra as a fun-loving servant of God, or a diligent worker in the church, but through whatever means your paths may have crossed, you touched her spirit and she lastingly touched yours. Cassandra dedicated her life to be a Proverbs 31 virtuous praying woman that laid before God. She was a sacrificing, loving, supportive, encouraging, God-fearing woman that stood before the enemy for everyone she encountered.

A Time to Love

Cassandra enjoyed a wonderful, God-loving, and very blessed life as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, family member, and friend. She valued service to God, loved ones, and friends above all else. Those who shared her life benefited from their connection with her, whether it was a smile, a wholesome meal, a helping hand, or a prayer. Cassandra was driven to share joy, a caring spirit, and a kind word to all who knew her. For the past seven years, Cassandra humbly dedicated her time to serving the community and spiritual bonding with the Living Water International Ministries (LWIM) family, during which her faith in God and devotion to the will of God grew in leaps and bounds. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others. Cassandra excelled at being a God-fearing woman as she often prayed with members of her family, friends, and co-workers and supported them through the many passions and difficulties in their lives. She loved to sing her go to song, "It’s A New Day”.

When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her room enjoying time with God, watching her favorite TV shows such as Judge Judy and the food network channels, or spending time with her sister-friends, Miriam, Karen, Kathy, Christie, Debra, Toni, and Kimberly, whom she greatly loved and adored.

A Time to Plant

Cassandra attended DC Public Schools and graduated from Howard Dilworth Woodson Senior High School in 1979. At Woodson, she excelled in academics and graduated with honors in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) program. She also attended Strayer University to further her education.

A Time to Honor

Cassandra married Bobby Richardson Sr., and four children were created from this union: Shanetta, Rachelle, Bobby, and Darrin. Although the marriage ended, Cassandra and Bobby Sr. remained friends for the best interest of their children. A few years later, in 1982, Cassandra met and was united in holy matrimony in 1996 to her true love Robert Rivers. Cassandra loved her children immensely and had unique relationships with each one. Her four children were the pride and joy of her life. She was their guiding force through academic, extra-curricular activities, families, and careers. During her children's success in life, she wore the “biggest smile” of elation. Cassandra life was further enriched when she became “Grandma” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cassandra became an excellent host and was passionate about cooking, holidays, and Sunday dinners for her family. There was always a pot of something smelling good at her home and delicious to taste. It was often said that she could prepare a meal for kings or the homeless man on the streets and not lose her common touch. Cassandra’s cooking would speak to your heart and soul, just to name a few…meatballs, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, fried chicken, jerk chicken, collard greens, and her special homemade tea. And then she would say Hallelujah” to validate her cooking expertise.

A Time to Work

In 1984 Cassandra began her nursing career that spanned over 18 years, working at Powhatan Nursing Home, Falls Church, Va. as a certified nursing assistant (CNA). In 1990, she was promoted to a senior CNA. In 1999, she worked at Arliegh Burke Pavilion, in McLean, Va. where she continued to work with the elderly. In February 2002. Cassandra began working for Southern Maryland Vocational Industries (SMVI), as a Coordinator, servicing adults with disabilities. In 2004, she was promoted to Assistant Director of their residential programs. She retired as the Director in 2014. Elder Cassandra Rivers, better known as Cassie, was a mirror image of Jesus. Her heart was full of compassion just as Jesus, her service to mankind was a spitting image of our Savior. She loved unconditionally, she did not judge, and she was loyal even in her sickness. She followed the path and trusted the process, and now all of her labor has awarded her wings next to her Savior in heaven.

A Time to Worship

At the tender age of six, Cassandra enjoyed being in church with her mother Julia and her Grandmother Carrie Kelly, who attended the Holy Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Solomon.

Cassandra was baptized at the age of 16 at Cornerstone Temple Baptist Church in Washington, DC, where her mother was a faithful member. In 1988, she rededicated herself to God at Revival Tabernacle Baptist Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Delores Avery. Cassandra served as a Missionary and Deaconess (in training). In 1996, she became a member at The Greater Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. James E. Hardy where she continued her ministry and training under the Chairperson, Deaconess Rosa Boast. In October 1998, Cassandra White-Rivers was ordained as a Deaconess.

In March 1999, she received a higher calling from God to evangelize and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. On September 23, 2007, Cassandra received her license to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and became known as Evangelist Cassandra N. White-Rivers. She served as head of the Culinary Ministry, Youth Ministry, Youth Choir Director, Director of the Anointed Dancing Angels Dance Ministry, Director of the Women’s Choir, and Sunday School Teacher.

In February 2008, Evangelist White-Rivers joined Spirit of the Living God Christian Center under the dynamic leadership of Bishop Billy Saint-James. Evangelist White-River’s would often say that Bishop Saint-James enhanced her spirit by his nurturing and teachings of the kingdom principles, which took her to a higher dimension in ministry as a dynamic orator for Christ. Evangelist Cassandra White-Rivers also received her license as one of the Associate Ministers. Where the flow of the Holy Spirit is high, she would frequently shout “To God be the Glory!”

In addition, Cassandra served as an Adjutant Armor Bearer and best friend to First Lady Sandra Saint-James. Cassandra held many titles of honor to include, but not limited to: Director of the Culinary Ministry, Sunday school teacher, Chairperson of the sick and shut-in, member of the First Lady Counsel Ministry, and was in training to become an Elder. In 2015, she joined Living Water International Ministries (LWIM) under the leadership of Pastor Sharon M. Randall. In October 2017, she became ordained as an Elder for LWIM. Elder White-Rivers enjoyed ministry as she preached the word of God to the Elderly at Vista Senior Community Center, Largo, Md. Elder White-Rivers was Elevated to Assistant Pastor of LWIM in 2021.

However, the most important title that mattered most to Elder White-River was a Child of the Most-Highest King!!

Cassandra’s favorite scripture were Romans 8:28, “and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God To them who are called according to his purpose.”
