Cass's obituary

Dr. Casper Jacob Schichtle, Jr., Col. USAF,  (Ret.) went to be with the Lord and reunite with his beloved Linda Lee on July 21, 2021 at age 81. 

Cass was born to hardworking parents, Casper and Rosemary Schichtle on February 17, 1940 in Tulsa, OK. The eldest of three boys, he was raised on a farm and excelled in school as an A-student and gifted athlete. Cass met his wife, Linda Womack, while classmates at Coffeyville High School in Kansas. They married on December 26, 1961 and had six children, Julia, Christine, Mark, Nicholas, Matthew and Cassie. Dedicated to higher learning, he attended college through scholarships that he earned from both football and the military, culminating in a Ph.D in operative research and management from Texas A&M University in 1971. A career officer in the USAF, Cass flew in the Vietnam War, was a Program Manager on the design and development of the F-15 Fighter Jet and the AWACS aircraft, served as the Director of Engineering and Projects for the BMO at Norton AFB and his 1983 National Defense University Press published paper, “The National Space Program” remains required reading at the National War College to this day. Cass and Linda realized their dream of living all over the world, including Washington DC, Taiwan, Hawaii, Ohio, Washington, Tennessee, Florida, California and Japan during their 27 years of dedicated military service. Cass retired in 1988, holding the rank of Colonel, and continued an illustrious space aeronautics career as a contractor with Lockheed- Martin, Sverdrup, NASA and the USAF at Cape Canaveral, FL before retiring on his 60th birthday, Feb 17th, 2000.

In addition to being a generous and dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Cass continued to pursue his passion for sports, playing and coaching and following his favorite teams and individuals until his dying day. He cherished sharing time with his family, road trips, and kicking the tires on every car that caught his eye. His entire life, he held an unwavering belief in God, prioritizing a private Catholic education for his children and a marriage union founded in faith. Cass is survived by his children, Julia, Christine, Mark, Nicholas, Matthew, Cassie and their spouses, as well as his grandchildren, Jillianne, Carina, Margaret, Caitlyn, Keaver, Kimberly, Jeremy, Julia, Casper III, Luke, Sariana and their spouses and his great-grandchildren Rosalee, Nora, Tucker, Noelle, Branton and Aowynn and by his brothers, David and Henry and their spouses and children

An open memorial service will commence on August 16, 2021 at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside, CA, with public viewing at 11:30am and chapel services beginning at 12:00pm. He will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery the following morning, August 17, 2021 at 11:30am.
