Casey (Catherine)'s obituary

Casey ( Catherine) Tarnacki (Behnke), at the age of 81, passed away surrounded by her loving family on January 9th, 2019. Casey was born January 31, 1937 in Jersey City, NJ. She resided in Toms River, NJ while working numerous jobs and raising her family, then moved to a quieter setting in Bracey, VA. In Bracey she was a very active volunteer with the fire department, hospital, and library; and pursued her many stamp, craft and knitting hobbies. After the passing of her beloved husband she moved to Mooresville, NC to be closer to her children.

Her infectious love of life, positive attitude, and deep well of caring for others will be greatly missed by her family and all those that met Casey. Customers, friends, family, and all new acquaintances quickly bonded and were all drawn in by her true care and interest in each individual person. Always selfless, always with humor, but firm ( aka with ‘the look’) when needed, she always had a kind word to say to all.

She navigated a long journey with COPD with an attitude that serves as a beacon for all. Her epic struggles where well supported by many terrific individuals in her caring family and the hospice program.

Casey was predeceased by her parents Otto and Mary Behnke; her siblings Otto ( Sonny) and Martin Behnke, and Marion McArdle; and her husband of 50 years, Joseph Tarnacki. She leaves behind her three children: Jerry Tarnacki, Cheryl Hertler, and Cyndi Castine, and her seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Stephanie, and Joseph Tarnacki, Kerri Mullis, Craig Hertler, Cortney Moses, and Christy Castine, and her five great grandchildren: Brian, Vince, Jace, Azlyn, and Otto.

The family is having a private memorial. To honor her memory, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital - stjude.org, a charity she always supported. Also, Casey and her family greatly appreciate the terrific hospice support over the past years. Donations can be made to the NationalHospiceFoundation.org.
