Carrie's obituary
Carrie Ann Massarweh-Smith, 67, passed on April 24, 2024. Born to Dale Lawson and the late Darlene Richardson on November 26, 1956, in Lakeland, FL, she was fondly known as "Aunt Carrie" to those close to her. A resident of Independence, MO, Carrie's life was characterized by her unwavering service to others -a testament to her generous spirit.
Carrie dedicated many years to working with individuals with disabilities as a paraprofessional and house manager, a role she approached with patience and empathy. Her commitment extended to the youth at McCune School for boys and Drumm Farm for Children, where she employed her unique talents to enhance the lives of at-risk children and those in foster care. Later, she transitioned to a role that truly showcased her nurturing soul-a professional nanny for numerous families.
Her personal passions were as loving as her professional endeavors, with baking from scratch ranking top among them. Her kitchen was a wellspring of comfort, from which she shared her love through every sumptuous treat. In quieter moments, Carrie found joy in crafting, particularly in stained glass and scrapbooking, merging her love for beauty and memory-keeping. Her interest in aroma therapy and natural healing reflected her lifelong dedication to care and wellbeing.
Mourning her departure while celebrating her legacy are her daughters, Amber Mapes with spouse Jon, and Tana Smith; grandsons Connor Elliott, Joseph Gabauer, and Eli Gabauer; sister Christe Terrion and her spouse Joseph; nephew Cody Terrion; brother Timothy Lawson; father Dale Lawson; and a community of friends whom she cherished deeply.
The family suggests contributions be made to Drumm Farm for Children in Independence, MO, as a tribute to Carrie's compassionate soul.
Services will be held Friday, May 10th at 4pm (Service at 5pm) and has been entrusted at Northland Christian Church, 6120 NE48th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64119. Carrie's warmth, caring nature, and indelible impact will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she find eternal rest and peace,
