Carolynn's obituary
Carolynn Lynnette Logan
Carolynn “Lynn” Logan was born 01/02/1943 in Asheboro, North Carolina to William “Witty” Adkins and Doris Bailey Adkins. She later became a big sister to her brother William “Squire” Adkins.
Carolynn and family later moved to the Greenville, South Carolina area where she was raised by her parents. She spent many years close to extended family and would enjoy summers with her cousins and family in the beautiful Carolinas.
Once she graduated from High school, Carolynn traveled back to North Carolina to attend college at Appalachian State. While at Appalachian, Lynn and 3 college friends worked two summers as waitresses at a restaurant on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. This was a turning point in their lives and they had “reunions” for many years (to the age of 78!). After graduating with a master’s degree from Michigan State University, Lynn and a roommate drove cross-country to teach in California.
She taught first grade in rural Morgan Hill School District, commuting one hour each way. She was recognized as a very creative teacher with numerous “learning stations” in her classroom to meet the needs of her students, and LOTS of art! Lynn developed a love for jazz music which led to her doing a 3-week study tour on her own in Africa. Hence, began her collecting of African art!
While teaching in Morgan HIll, she met Gordon Logan. They eventually married in 1971. In 1978 Carloynn and Gordon moved to Mendocino County where they met many of their life-long friends. They continued their teaching careers with the Potter Valley School District into the 80’s. Carolynn and Gordon adopted two beautiful children Amanda and Sam. They raised their family in their home in a rural area of Redwood Valley, CA.
The home and property was a place of peace and serenity for Lynn. She had a love for nature, animals, art, music and the outdoors. She passed down her passion of traveling the world to her children. This included a car trip across the country from South Carolina back to California. Her adventures with her kids even included an across the world trip to China in 2007.
Lynn enjoyed being a hostess. Anyone who knew her knew she was a phenomenal baker and cook. She hosted events that had more desserts than you could imagine. One of her favorite events was her annual Christmas party with a few of her closest friends. We will all miss her ischler cookies.
Carolynn retired from the Ukiah Unified School District in 2011. She later became a grandmother to her grandchildren Gavin, Asher, Abigail and Grayson. She shared her passion for art and teaching by volunteering at her daughter-in-law’s classroom.
Carolynn lived a full life and passed on her friendship and love to many. She loved her time with family, friends, food, culture and music. She will be dearly missed but will be remembered forever by those who she shared her life with.
