Carolyn's obituary

Carolyn Sisk, 91, died on August 24, 2021.

She spent her life in love and service to her family, her students and her community. Her charitable efforts were extended through the Columbia First Presbyterian Church, Columbia Senior Center, Howard County Hospital, and later through the Columbia Baha’i Community.

Her love of history and literature and her spirit of adventure took her around the world, and it was not uncommon to see her on the back of her nephew’s Harley. well into her 80’s.

She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roger Ayers. The family arrived in Parsonsburg, MD in the 1930's.

Carolyn earned degrees from Salisbury State College and John’s Hopkins University. She became a dedicated and beloved teacher, a reading specialist: first in Howard County, later with Dept. of Defense in Bitburg, Germany, where she moved for five years with her adored husband of 31 years, husband Robert Sisk, who predeceased her in October, 2006.

She is survived by five children, Pamela Reardon, Janet Mullen, Andrew Adkins, Randall Sisk and David Adkins; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roger Ayers of Salisbury, Ronald Ayers and Russell Ayers of Hebron. She was predeceased by her daughter Anne Adkins and by sisters, Edna Lucille Taylor and Florence Lorraine Avis, of Salisbury.

A committal service was held at the Jerusalem Cemetery in Parsonsburg.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests that contributions in her memory be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation.
