Carolyn's obituary

Emma Pauline Carolyn Dudas Loudermilk went to be with her heavenly father today after a 92 year battle with Father time.

She was born at home in Bruni, Texas on December 17 in 1929, second child of Tus Nelda (Nelda) Wilhelmina Helweg and Richard ( Dick) Dudas. Her family lived in Bruni until her father was transferred to Refugio, Texas in 1937 when Carolyn was 8 years old. She graduated from Refugio High School. She had three siblings, Florence Bill and Joyce. She was married to Sydney Loudermilk. October 26, 1951, in Beaumont, Texas. Carolyn and Sid lived in Bellaire, Texas. They had four sons, Alvin Royal, Al, Robert Henry, Bob, John Richard, and Timothy Lowell, Tim. Sid and Carolyn divorced, on May 23, 1966. Sid had an unfortunate and fatal heart attack at the young age of 45.

Prior to her marriage, Carolyn attended Concordia Teachers college in River Forest Illinois, obtaining a two-year teaching certificate. She worked at St John’s Lutheran school for several years before marrying Sid. Following their marriage, she attended The University of Texas to further her education but had to withdraw when she and Sid found they were expecting their first child. After their divorce, Carolyn attended the University of Houston where she completed her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education She went on to be an excellent elementary school teacher for over 25 years at West University Elementary School. This resilience and strength allowed her to raise her four sons independently in Bellaire.

When she retired from teaching 5th grade at West University Elementary, she moved to Sugar Land, Texas. She made many friends and became heavily involved with her church, Christ the Lord Evangelical Lutheran Church. She taught English as a second language through her church for many years and experienced great joy from this endeavor. She loved to play games, especially with her family, and liked to play bridge at her local community centers. She often hosted loud and fun-filled meals for her family and extended family for many years.

She lived as an independent and strong woman in Sugar Land for over 25 years until a few years ago; Covid-19 forced her to accept loving help from her granddaughter Joelle who moved in with her.

Throughout her life, her faith in God and Christ has been her guiding light and gave her enormous joy.

She is survived by her three sons, Alvin and his wife Randa and granddaughter, Joelle and her wife Alicia; John, and grandchildren Woodie and Rita, and John’s partner Meg; Tim, and his wife Sheryl and granddaughter Elle. She is also survived by her sister Joyce. Carolyn’s son, Bob, her sister Florence and brother Bill predeceased her.
