Carol's obituary

In Loving Memory of Carol Anne Watling

Carol, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 6th. Carol’s life was defined by her unwavering love for family, her incredible resilience, and her joyful spirit that touched everyone she met.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Carol was the cherished eldest daughter of Catherina Magdelena Klein (née Brits) and Edmund Klein. She grew up in a close-knit family alongside her three brothers, Deon Klein (married to BJ), Theo Klein (married to Charlene), and Eric Klein (married to Angela), and her sister, Louise Hanbidge (Klein) (married to Robin). Carol shared a special bond with her siblings and was known for always having a good cut-up time with her brothers, creating laughter and memories that will be cherished forever.

Carol was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Charles Watling, with whom she built a beautiful life. Together, they raised two children, Tracey Thomas (Watling) and Ross Watling, who were the pride and joy of her life. Carol’s deep love for her family extended to her children’s spouses, Craig Thomas and Kelli Watling, and her four treasured grandchildren, Charlotte, Jack, Stella, and Owen. Known to them affectionately as “Gaga,” she delighted in every moment spent spoiling them with love, laughter, and thoughtful gifts, especially during birthdays and Christmas.

Carol had a zest for life that was evident in everything she did. She loved to travel, explore new cuisines, and shop, always embracing the joy in every experience. Even after her cancer diagnoses, she exhibited incredible strength and a will to live, cherishing every moment with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Family was the cornerstone of Carol’s life. She took immense pride in keeping her loved ones connected, ensuring that even across distances, everyone felt close and loved. She was the heart of every celebration, bringing warmth, humor, and an unwavering sense of togetherness to all who gathered around her.

Carol’s final wish will honor her roots and her love for her birthplace, Cape Town, South Africa. Her ashes will be spread overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, where she will rest alongside her beloved parents, Rina and Edmund.

To honor Carol’s life, the family will hold a quiet celebration of life in her memory. Additionally, another celebration will take place in Cape Town when her ashes are spread, ensuring her spirit is celebrated in the place she held dearest.

Carol will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her boundless love, resilience, and the joy she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will always hold her memory close.

We love you, Carol, (Mum, Gaga) and will miss you dearly.
