Carol's obituary

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Anderson Burst, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, artist, and cherished friend. Carol passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, just days after celebrating her 90th birthday. Carol is survived by her children Barbara and Charles Burst and her daughter-in-law Karleen, as well as three grandchildren Shannon, Ryan and Colleen and great-grandchild Aubree. Carol’s sister Barbara (“Bobbi”) survived her by only eight days.

Born on December 24, 1935, Carol carried the warmth of the season with her throughout her life. She made her home in Dix Hills, New York where she built a life rich with family and friends. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Alfred Burst (“Buddy”), with whom she shared a truly magical life. Together they built their family business Burst Tree Expert Company, traveled the world, and spent treasured summer weekends in Southold on the North Fork. Their partnership was one of deep love, adventure and unwavering devotion.

Carol was a gifted and passionate artist, widely known for her remarkable oil paintings inspired by the natural beauty of Long Island. Many of her works captured the light, stillness, and soul of North Fork landscapes. Through her art, she preserved moments of peace and beauty that will continue to live on for generations.

Carol was optimistic and playful; she often turned a string of difficulties into a funny story. A voracious reader, she was always curious and interested in learning about herself and others. She loved listening to music (especially Big Band jazz) and often had the radio or turntable playing all day. She was also deeply devoted to civil rights and believed strongly in equality, justice, and compassion for all. These values guided the way she lived, loved, and raised her family.

Carol was known not only for her talent and convictions, but for her sense of style. She was always sharply dressed, carrying herself with a timeless grace that made her presence unforgettable. A truly lovely woman in every sense, Carol’s beauty radiated from both her outward poise and her generous, thoughtful heart. She made friends wherever she went, and actively maintained friendships from as far back as 1940!

Carol will be remembered for her artistic spirit, strong convictions, and the way she made everyone feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. Her presence brought comfort and inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who loved her. May her memory be a blessing to us all.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends.

Should you feel compelled to make a donation in her memory, she was a regular supporter of Democracy Now, Nature Conservancy, The Red Cross, The Wilderness Society, Unicef and the church she attended in Dix Hills: St Luke’s Lutheran.
