Carol's obituary

Carol Ann Harmon Beckwith, age 62, passed away on the evening of December 25, 2022.

She is predeceased by her parents, Alva and Betty Harmon. She is survived by her husband Andrew Jay Beckwith and their three children, Hannah Beckwith and her husband Ryan Augustyn; Rachel Beckwith and her fiancée Breanne Taylor; Rae Beckwith and her girlfriend Gia Alaimo. Also left behind are siblings Steve Harmon and his wife Monica; Cathy Horais and her husband Brian; Judy Smiddy and her husband Sam; Greg Harmon and his wife Susan; many nieces and nephews and their spouses; grandchildren Julia and Dallas Augustyn; her cat MJ, and her beloved dog Charlie.

Born on September 8, 1960 in Knoxville, Tennessee, Carol grew up one of five children. She spoke fondly of her experiences growing up, often reminiscing about happy memories and family trips to Daytona Beach, Florida. She was closest in age to her younger brother Greg, but in adulthood she had close relationships with all of her siblings. Carol attended Knoxville West High School where she excelled in drama, music, and English language arts. She went on to study at the University of Tennesee, and although it was during high school that she met Andy, it was during their college years that they started dating and later became engaged.

After their marriage on February 13, 1986, Carol and Andy packed up and moved to Charleston, South Carolina where they would spend the next 30 or so years raising their three children. Carol could often times be found outside during the spring and summer months. She enjoyed spending time in the backyard on the deck Andy built for her, listening to her favorite music, talking on the phone with her sisters, or reading the latest Stephen King novel.

Carol was a devoted wife and mother, often making personal sacrifices to ensure the happiness of her family. She fostered the many interests and talents of her children, never once discouraging them from pursuing the things they loved. She was a firm believer in finishing what you started. She instilled that drive to do and do well in her kids, who have now grown into competent and determined adults.

After a long lasting career in retail, during which she helped to provide for her family for many years, Carol left the workforce to help care for her granddaughter. It was shortly after this transition in life that she and Andy packed up again and moved to Hattiesburg Mississippi in the fall of 2020, where she would spend her remaining days. In Hattiesburg, Carol and Andy enjoyed discovering new restaurants together and traveling down to New Orleans on occasion. She also spent much of her time cooking and baking, two great joys in her life.

Carol will be missed dearly by all who had the chance to know her. Although gone from this life, she will forever be remembered for her strength and resiliency in the face of hardships, her devotion to her family, and her love of the simpler things in life.

Arrangements to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, Andy asks that you please make a donation in Carol's name to Best Friends Animal Society, who's mission states: "To bring about a time when there are no more homeless pets."
