My beautiful, intelligent cousin, the one with the flawless skin… I can’t understand that I’m traveling to Michigan, but I won’t be able to see your physical presence. I know you’re at peace, but we’ll forever miss you. I’m so glad I got to speak and laugh with you one last time.

I was always amazed how joyful and positive Carly’s voice was, before her illness, after her diagnosis, and even when it seemed life could not possibly get any harder. She was stoic, courageous and never wavered in her fight. 

I can only imagine the impact she made on her students; something they will carry will them for the rest of their lives - shaping the next generation to become, in a way, just like her.  And she did it with grace, compassion and inspiration. That is the legacy of Carly. We should all be so fortunate.
