Carlton's obituary
Carlton Collier was born on February 24, 1972 and passed away on August 18, 2023. He was a much loved son, father, brother, husband, mentor, and friend. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY in the year 1990, Carlton went on to start his career at the Department of Education in 1991. He was passionate about education and dedicated many years to mentoring young people, serving as a High School Counselor. His career was a testament to his sincere dedication to improving the lives of the young adults he worked with.
He met his former wife Dr. Damele Elliott-Hubbard, in 1995. From their union was born Hassan Collier and Ashe' Collier. Carlton and Damele were married for 25 years. Carlton joined Mt. Paran Baptist Church, in Brooklyn, NY, where his former wife co-pastored with her mother, Pastor Susie M. Elliott. He played the bass there for many years, serving as their Minister of Music.
Carlton was a man of many passions. He was a trained chef who savored the pleasure of working the grill. As a lover of music, Carlton was often found listening to the likes of Jaco Pastorius, Bootsy Collins, Victor Wooten, and Larry Graham. His favorite pastime was playing the bass, a talent that he graciously shared with others, playing music across the country for many years. When not indulging in his passion for music and entertainment, Carlton loved to travel, particularly enjoying trips to Georgia.
Carlton will be remembered as a man who was extremely passionate about music and education. The gift of his mentoring touched and enriched countless lives. In 2017, he received an award from the Department of Education, for 25 years of Dedicated Service to the City of New York. His memory will be etched in our hearts forever. He is survived by his son Hassan, his daughter Ashe', his mother Karen Kirkland, his father Carlton Collier Sr. (Yvonne), his step-mother Renee Smith-Collier, his sister Tiffany Collier, his brothers Joshua (Jessica) and Josiah Collier, his niece/goddaughter Natalie Henry, his former wife Dr. Damele Elliott-Hubbard, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
We leave you with this quote: "Life is a question you can't answer, and death is an answer that you can't question." We bow in humble submission to God's decision to bring Carlton home to his eternal rest. We are grateful that He allowed Carlton to pass by our way.
