Carlos's obituary

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Carlos Corona or Charlie as known by his family and friends.

He passed away unexpectedly on January 15th. He leaves behind his wife, their twin boys, his parents and five siblings. His entire family, friends, and the communities of Arbuckle and Woodland are mourning his passing.

Charlie was an exceptional person. He was a gem - kind, loyal and hardworking. He had so much love to give. He was so full of life and quick to make others laugh. He ran countless half-marathons, full marathons, and went skydiving once even though we all begged him not to.

Charlie grew up in Arbuckle, California, graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology and then earned his teaching credential and Master of Education from Chico State. It was no surprise when he returned home to Arbuckle to teach 7th grade science in the same school he and his siblings once attended. He had such pride for Arbuckle.

In his short 33 years of life, Charlie accomplished so much. He played football, track & field, was a member of FBLA, and graduated from Pierce High School with high distinction. In college, he was a member of the UC Santa Barbara Crew Team, was an undergraduate teaching assistant, served as a mentor through the Fight Back Mentor Program, and volunteered as a scribe with Doctors Without Walls.

After graduating from college, he joined the City Year Family as a Corp Member in Sacramento working with students at Rosa Parks Elementary. He then became a Leader in the City Year Care Force Project where he led transformative service projects in 18 schools/communities across the country.

His work with students continued as an Outdoor Educator at Camp Highland Outdoor Science School; Mental Health Counselor with Seneca Family of Agencies; Substitute Teacher; Middle School Science Teacher in Ceres Unified School District; and eventually returning home to teach 7th grade Science in the Pierce Joint Unified School District.

It was important for us to share all that he was able to accomplish and the impact he made not only on our family, but nationwide. His passion for education is evident in all that he dedicated himself to. It gives us some comfort knowing he inspired so many students to excel academically and personally.

Please share your photos, videos, and memories you shared with Carlos. Our family would love to see and read them. We will save these for his sons to read someday, so they may know how special their dad was and the impact he had on others.

We will miss him deeply for the rest of our lives. Forever in our hearts.
