Ever Loved suggested I pause and think of my friend Carla. I don't need the reminder as I think of her often. What a beautiful soul! From my heart to yours - sending love, healing, prayers, warmth. I'll always think of Carla whenever I ride through this little greenspace in Washington, DC. I don't know why it reminds me of her because we met in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Maybe its the simple beauty and quiet in the middle of this active city. That's not the only time but my heart swells with friendship and joy when I'm there.
I am so saddened to hear of Carla’s passing. We met in Boulder CO more than a decade ago. Carla and I were on the same spiritual path. Little did we know that we would later both be on the transplant path. I admired Carla’s spirit, her extreme compassion and her incredible ability to express herself. I will always remember the beautiful times we shared together. Later we moved to California & Carla to Las Vegas. Carla so graciously hosted my son & I in Vegas on our move/drive back to CA. Carla continued to correspond. I treasured receiving mail from her. She wrote as beautifully as she spoke. She was a true angel on this earth. Descanse en Paz querida Carla.
Carla was a wonderful friend. I have many happy memories of her friendship. She arranged a surprise 40 the birthday party for me with 12 of our mutual girlfriends. Best birthday ever! I was totally surprised! She was staying with me at my Brickell condo when I went to Italy for two weeks. During that time she and another friend painted my living room table, which I had been putting off for ages. Loved it and the thought behind it. She was so brave during her illness. She wanted to live life as long as she could and she came to NC and stayed with us a night. She was so organized about her myriad meds I was awed and admired her so much. All of our Miami friends grieved for her when I told them she had died. Gracias a la vida for giving us dear Carlita.
Deeply saddened to hear of Carla's passing more than a year after the event. I knew her when she lived and worked at the SBA in Washington, DC in the late 1980s. She had a brilliant mind, a delightful sense of humor and a warm heart. RIP Carla. -Vikram Khanna, Singapore
