Carl's obituary
Carl Henry Hursh, 83, passed away peacefully in his Palm Springs, CA home on Monday, April 22, 2024, with his children Jennifer and Gretchen by his side.
Carl was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA by his parents Margaret and Carl Hursh Sr. After graduating from Taylor Allderdice High School, Carl proudly served in the U.S Air Force for four years. He went on to earn a teaching degree from the University of Pittsburgh but then started a job at US Steel, which developed into a successful thirty-five-year career. An early retirement allowed Carl to move from Pittsburgh to Palm Springs to enjoy a new chapter in his life.
Not one to sit idle, Carl landed a job with the famous Fabulous Palm Springs Follies. He became the show's Reservation Manager, a position he held proudly until their final curtain call. Carl’s love for movies led to many years of volunteering for the Palm Springs International Film Festival, something that brought him much enjoyment and opportunities to meet some of his favorite movie stars. He also volunteered his time with the Desert AIDS Project, Palm Springs Modernism Week and other local causes.
With his humorous wit and charm, Carl was loved by many and continued to make friends throughout his life. When he moved into assisted living, Carl became a staff favorite and a helpful friend to fellow residents. Even in his final weeks, hospice personnel commented on his kindness and jovial manner.
Following Carl’s passing, an intimate Celebration of Life was held in his honor. His sense of humor, love of good food, gardening, music and movies, along with his guiding hand, will be greatly missed by many.
