Candie's obituary
Candie Ann Dutton, age 67, passed peacefully at home March 3, 2025 in Panama City, FL. She was born October 27, 1957 to the late William Cecil and Bonnie Massey. As the daughter of an army officer, she spent her childhood traveling and moving all over the world before settling in Columbus, GA. There she attended Baker High School and Columbus College. In 1979, she married and devoted many years to being a homemaker after welcoming 2 children, often referring to herself as a domestic goddess. She enjoyed being a room mom in her children’s schools, served as a substitute teacher, and chaperoned field trips. As her children got older, she began to work outside the home in finance.
Candie loved to travel, cook, craft, shop, and spend time with friends and family. She never met a stranger and was always thinking of others. If you visited her home, you never left without a "care package" consisting of snacks, clothes, and that random piece of art or candle that you happened to mention that you really liked. In her retirement years, she found peace and calm in Panama City, FL. Her favorite place to be was sitting at the window of her apartment overlooking the bay.
As much as she doted on her children, her greatest joy in life came from being a Nana. She loved spending as much time as possible with her 4 grandchildren. She never tired of babysitting them when they were little and loved sitting up chatting with them til all hours of the night as they navigated their teen years. She was the sounding board they often needed. As soon as they started driving, “Nana by the Bay” was their go to place for good food, fun, and conversations. She was also very excited to have just become a great-grand Nana and was already working on spoiling him rotten.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Massey. She is survived by her children, Jamie Roy (Randy) and JT Dutton (Angela), brother Jeff Massey, grandchildren Savannah Armstrong (Kyler), Ashton Kemp, Preston Roy, and Mallory Dutton, great grandson Kayden Armstrong, former husband and friend, Terry Dutton (Peggy), a very large extended family and many friends, who she always treated as family.
Candie was truly one of a kind and will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, laughter, and unwavering love.
"Love doesn't die, people do. So when all that's left of me is love, give me away."
