Candy's obituary
Candice (Anderson) Wilson, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 16, 2024, after being diagnosed with lung cancer January 31, 2024. Candy was born in Spokane, WA, in 1943, and grew up living in Minneapolis, Detroit Lakes, Columbia Falls, MT, and Duluth. As an adult, she also lived in many places, including Cloquet, MN; Mahtowa, MN; Lake Kiowa, TX; White Bear Lake, MN; Palm Desert, CA; Rio Rico, AZ; Cincinnati, OH; ; and, finally, Centerville, MN. Candy graduated from Duluth Denfeld in 1961. Over the course of her life, Candy excelled in a variety of professions. She worked as a hair stylist and ran her own beauty nook on Shamrock Farm for many years, was a member of the original start-up team for the opening of Lake Superior Paper Industries in Duluth, and worked many years in clothing retail at Chicos and J. Jill. Beyond her family and faith, her biggest love was horses. She raised, trained, and showed quarter horses with her family on Shamrock Farm in Mahtowa, MN. Later in life, she enjoyed trail rides with her horse, Roany, in Southern Arizona. Candy was an avid volunteer and supporter of 4H and served as president of the American Quarter Horse Association’s 8th District. She was a true and spirited cowgirl.
Candy was predeceased by her beloved husband Leonard, father Herbert Anderson, mother Olga (Refseth) Anderson, and sister Marnie (Anderson) Morgan. She is survived by her children, Mia Wilson, Lisa (Leo) Hanna, Kari (Scott) Kaytor, and David (Sarah) Wilson, and her stepchildren Trish Wilson and Gary (Sheri) Wilson. She is also survived by her sister, Robin Peterson, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Candy was a strong woman of faith who faced every challenge in her life with grace and dignity. She was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Candy requested a celebration of life be held in her honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. We request all of Candy’s loved ones to join us in celebrating her beautiful life at Peder Pedersen Pavillion in Hugo, MN, on June 28. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that you make donations to Our Lady of Peace Hospice at https://ourladyofpeacemn.org/… in lieu of flowers.
