Calvin Leland Oetjen, affectionately known as Cal, peacefully departed from this world on December 9, 2023, at the age of 83, in Mesa, Arizona. Born in September of 1940, in the city of Chicago, Illinois, Cal's life was a testament to determination and devotion.
A cherished father, Cal's memory will forever reside in the hearts of his children: Stephen Oetjen, Cristin Beckendorf, Scott Oetjen, Chad Oetjen, and Sara Dunham. Additionally, his legacy continues through the lives of his 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased in death by his daughter, Claire Oetjen Phommasane.
Cal's journey was marked by various experiences and roles. From his beginnings in Chicago, he embarked on a nomadic path, settling in different states such as Arkansas, Tennessee, and Ohio. With unwavering resilience, Cal dedicated himself to a multitude of professions, showcasing his talents as a draftsman and a truck driver, traversing the vast expanse of the nation. He also ran his own business building solar collectors and roofing houses. However, it was his career as a mechanical engineer, notably working for Square D and Siemens, that truly showcased his intellect and dedication.
In his leisure time, Cal indulged in his love for automobiles, finding joy in their intricate mechanisms and the open road. He also pursued various projects, finding satisfaction in working with his hands. Cal understood the importance of maintaining a healthy body and mind, dedicating himself to regular exercise. Throughout his life, Cal found solace in the arms of faith, seeking guidance and strength within the Lutheran Church. His unwavering commitment led him to serve as the Assistant Minister, providing spiritual support to his community.
In accordance with Cal's wishes, a private memorial service will be held with immediate family members, allowing them the opportunity to honor and remember a life lived to the fullest. The compassionate team at Hansen Mortuary Chapel, located in Phoenix, Arizona, will assist in ensuring a
