Calvin's obituary
Calvin Kearney, age 69, passed away on January 1st 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on September 3rd, 1956 in Fayetteville, North Carolina Calvin lived a full and multifaceted life marked by service, connection, and resilience.
He was a graduate of Seventy First High School, proud alumni of North Carolina Central University, and went on to obtain a Masters Degree from Webster University. As a retired Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, Calvin dedicated years of his life to public service, protecting his community and guiding others with both firmness and compassion. Beyond the badge, he was a mentor to many—offering wisdom, direction, and support to young people and colleagues alike, and leaving a lasting impact that extended far beyond his career.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Kearney and Eva Mae Kearney, and by siblings, Grace Ann Monroe and Robert Milton Kearney whose memories he carried with him throughout his life. Calvin was the proud father of four children: Calvin Kearney Jr. (Vanessa), Lauren Santana, Brooke Kearney, and Kendall Kearney, who were among his greatest joys and most enduring legacy. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Jarell Kearney, Jayden Kearney, Kayson Scott, Sophia Santana, and Calvin Charles Kearney who brought him immense pride and happiness. He is survived by his loving siblings: Patricia Medlin, Gloria (Tommy) Thomas, Bobby (Laverne) Kearney, Tracy (Ernest) Moore, and Michelle (Christopher Sr.) Smith; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who shared meaningful chapters of life with him.
Calvin understood life—and love—in many forms. His journey was shaped by deep relationships, growth, and complexity, and he will be remembered for his presence, his stories, and the lives he touched along the way.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church 3301 Beatties Ford Rd. Charlotte, NC 28216. Visitation will being at 11:00AM and the Service will follow at 12:00PM. In honor of Calvin’s life, the family invites those who wish to make a contribution to the family in his memory to donate here.
