I am so sad to know this. I didn't know Calvin well, but whenever I saw him it was like seeing a dear friend. Several times every season, we exchanged silly cheers on Barrel Stave, when we were both there teaching easy bumps to our separate students. I could always tell Calvin's kids adored him and for good reason: he was kind, and funny, and had a big heart. It's really hard to imagine never seeing him again.
When I started teaching skiing at Beaver Creek Calvin was incredibly welcoming and made me feel like a big part of the team. That warmth and enthusiasm he displayed continued through my years at BC and it is with a very heavy heart that I am just now hearing of his passing. You were a terrific person Calvin and I will miss seeing you around BC, especially when you would joke and entertain my students when they were getting bored with me! You will be missed my friend and fellow ski enthusiast
I so enjoy teaching skiing with Calvin. He was such a bright light and so much fun. I learned so many things from him. He was definitely a people person. FYI, I tried to come to the Beaver Creek ceremony, but as I was leaving, we realized that the 2 o’clock time was central mountain time so we would’ve missed it!!
