Byron's obituary
Byron Don Brown
September 24, 1955 – November 17, 2025
Byron Don Brown, 70, passed away peacefully in San Diego, California, on November 17, 2025, with his husband Frank and his friend and roommate, Phillip Howe, by his side, while his family held him closely in their hearts from afar. He was lovingly cared for by his husband, Frank, whose strength and compassion sustained him and brought peace in his final chapter, with his cherished cat, Emily, close beside him. Born in Newton, Kansas on September 24, 1955, Byron lived much of his life in Maryland and Florida, where he built deep connections and communities that remained meaningful throughout his life.
Byron was an exceptional Steinway piano salesman, known for his deep passion for music and his remarkable ability to match people with the perfect instrument. His love for pianos was profound, and he found joy not just in selling them, but in sharing their beauty and bringing music into people’s lives. A man of faith, Byron held a deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ, and worship music remained a meaningful part of his life. His passion for music extended beyond pianos and worship; he loved dancing and singing and performed with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC, where he built lifelong friendships.
He loved going to the zoo and talking to the animals, finding joy in even the simplest interactions. He also loved a good practical joke, always finding ways to bring laughter and lighthearted fun to the people around him. Byron loved to travel the world, embracing new places, cultures, and spontaneous adventures wherever they led him. His smile could light up a room and was truly contagious, leaving others brighter just by being near him. He loved decorating for Christmas, insisting that every tree branch had to have at least one light—his rule that guaranteed a beautifully illuminated tree year after year. But above all, he loved his family. His vibrant spirit, kind heart, and unwavering belief in paying it forward—often anonymously—defined the way he lived. He enjoyed sharing meals and surprising strangers by quietly picking up the tab just to brighten someone's day. His humor, storytelling, and endless energy left an imprint on everyone lucky enough to know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat Brown and Donald Brown, and by his former wife and mother of his children, Roxie Brown. He is survived by his siblings, Dawn Marie Redger, Brad Brown, and Rebecca Leeuw; his loving husband, Frank Taylor; his daughters Olivia Wondrely and Elizabeth Davis; and his grandchildren Maks Davis, Onli Wondrely, and Evri Wondrely.
In keeping with Byron’s wishes, no formal service will be held.
Byron’s legacy lives on through the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he quietly lifted along the way.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” — Matthew 5:4
