Burt's obituary
Burton Lee “Burt” Hillmann, 78, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona. A devoted family man and proud veteran, Burt lived a life marked by service, sincerity, and deep affection for those closest to him.
Born on January 24, 1947, in Sleepyeye, Minnesota, Burt was the son of Elmer and Elda Hillmann. From his early years in Minnesota to his final days in Arizona, Burt carried with him a steadfast sense of duty and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Burt served honorably in the United States Air Force, retiring as a senior master sergeant after a distinguished career. His time in the military was a source of great pride for him—he valued the camaraderie and purpose it brought into his life. Following his military retirement, Burt continued to contribute through a second career at Boeing, where he again demonstrated his reliability and dedication.
For the past 28 years, Burt shared his life with Diane Schluck, his beloved partner. Their bond was one of mutual respect and enduring companionship. He was also a devoted father to Tammy Simpson (Matt) and the late Teresa “Terry” Pope (Tim), cherishing every moment spent with them and their families.
Burt’s love for family extended deeply to his grandchildren—Mackenzie and Carson—who brought him immense joy. He also held close relationships with his siblings: brother Kermit Hillmann (Vicky), sisters Laurie Austvold (Louie) and Bette Melby. His presence will be missed by many nieces and nephews who knew him as both kind-hearted and dependable.
He found peace in simple pleasures—reading books that sparked his curiosity and fishing trips that allowed him to connect with nature and loved ones alike. Whether casting a line or turning the pages of a favorite novel, Burt embraced these moments with quiet contentment.
Those who knew Burt remember him as kind, sincere, thoughtful, trustworthy and above all else—a man who loved his family deeply. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched with his steady presence and generous spirit.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.
