Bryan's obituary
Bryan Thomas Glenn, 63, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on February 12, 2024. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1978, and went on to earn a Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration and Management from Amber University in Garland, TX. He was a devoted son and loving father. He had two beautiful children and was given five wonderful grandchildren, all of whom called him Popi.
Bryan was a man of hard work and passion. One of the earliest jobs he took up was that of carpentry, building homes across the city, leaving “a forever mark in Amarillo”, as he put it. Later in life, he would live for a couple of decades in one of those homes, a just reward for his labors.
After earning his degrees, he dove into the business world, working for big companies like Texas Instruments, Cummins Diesel, and eventually, West Texas A&M University, a place he always referred to as his dream job. At WT, he dug in, earning multiple recognitions, titles, and positions including Employee of the Month, Staff Council President, part-time instructor, and a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma (a fact-based, data-driven philosophy of process improvement in the business industry). Furthermore, he became involved with Canyon Lions Club and the Khiva Shrine in Amarillo, humbly serving and impacting the communities.
When unplugged from the work world, Bryan enjoyed many things in life. One of his passions was grilling and smoking meats, spending hours monitoring the temperature and charring to perfection; Popi-Q he called it. He would always be the last to eat because the host in him would always encourage others to grab a plate first (also, as with any of us, he may have sampled the goods during cooking; a proper chef!).
Despite living in Texas, Bryan was a devout Minnesota Vikings fan, yet he always had a soft spot for Texas teams like the Cowboys and Rangers. For entertainment, he loved The Simpsons, M*A*S*H, the Andy Griffith Show, Food Network, 80s action flicks, and many classics. His taste in music was a buffet, with the main dish being 60s, 70s, and 80s rock, side-dished with 90s rock and some country, especially that of beach-themed songs. His favorite musician was hands-down Jimmy Buffett. Some of Bryan’s greatest moments were those beachside; sun kissing his cheeks, toes in the sand, and ocean nipping at his feet.
Bryan had his passions and flavors of entertainment, but he made certain to share. Whether he was cooking for three people or his entire extended family, there was always plenty of delicious food to eat. When it came to music, movies, television shows, or MAD magazines, he wanted his children and grandchildren to love and appreciate the classics, even if it meant defying the current generation’s prerogative or idolization.
A man of Faith, Bryan served the Lord. To quote, “Religion? Yes, I believe that Christ is the true and only way. I have a deep belief of God and the teachings of the Bible.” Dedicated to the Methodist Church, he sought to enrich his and others’ lives, focusing on the Word as well as the camaraderie and brotherhood. Despite hitting high or low points in life, his Faith and servitude never wavered, even during his final days.
Bryan was preceded in death by Kimberly Glenn, sister; Justin Hutchinson, adopted son; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles. Bryan is survived by Earl and Royda Glenn, parents; Dane Glenn, son, and wife, Jordan; Caitlin Claypool, daughter, and husband, Josh; Tharaka Peiris, adopted son; Linda Young, sister, and husband, Gene; Laurie Spurlock, sister, and husband, Brent; Avery Glenn, granddaughter; Madison Claypool, granddaughter; Charles Glenn, grandson; Benjamin Claypool, grandson; Reagan Claypool, granddaughter; numerous nephews and nieces; Janet Erwin, former wife; and Regina Hutchinson-Glenn, former wife.
