Bruce's obituary
Bruce Allen Smith Sr., 59, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on May 4, 2024 following a long battle with complex health issues. Born on September 04, 1964, in Worcester, Massachusetts to Robert Smith Sr. and Josephine Arduca,
Bruce had a profound love for music. Before his health decline, Bruce found solace in strumming out melodies on the guitar, or jamming out to his favorite bands. Bruce was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan, and he could usually be found cheering on the team, no matter if they were winning or losing! Outside of his interests, Bruce was a charismatic person, who enjoyed the company of others. He spent a lot of time forging friendships with people from all corners of the globe through his shared love of online video games. Before his passing, he spent the majority of his time quietly at home with his wife and their dog Rocky, who he lovingly called his “best friend”.
Bruce was known for his spirited sense of humor, lovingly antagonizing those closest to him, always in good fun and with an infectious laughter that brought joy to those around him. His wit and playful banter were a hallmark of his personality, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Bruce held an unwavering love for his family, though circumstances prevented him from spending as much time with them as he would have wished. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Cynthia Smith, and their blended family, including his children, Tricia Rispoli and her husband Jason, Toni Miller and her husband Steven, both of Gainesville, FL, Bruce Smith Jr of Austin, TX, Ashleigh Slonaker and her husband Jason of Fleming Island, FL, and Courtney Virbickis also of Gainesville, FL. He is remembered as “Bampa/Grampy,” by his six grandchildren Maddilyn, Jaxon, Alexander, and Rain Rispoli, as well as Savanna and Dylan Slonaker.
Bruce is fondly remembered by his brothers Barry Smith and his wife Julie of Starke, FL, Robert Smith and his wife Cindy, of Orlando, FL, and Brian Smith and his wife Olga, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his newborn daughter, Chelsea and his father Robert Sr. in 1998, and his mother Josephine in 2020.
A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on Saturday, September 7th, 2024 in Gainesville, FL. Details for the event will be shared in the coming months. All Family and Friends are invited to join in honoring his memory and sharing stories of his life.
