Chip was a joy to work with, and a fountain of knowledge as a colleague ❤️ he was always willing to listen - and adapt to whatever came his way. A true gem to have as a partner at school! It's been 15 years since I have seen him.... But I remember everything like it was yesterday. When I applied at Bellehaven, I went through the interview process, then was sent into the gym to write a paragraph about why I thought I belonged there. I watched Mr. Saltman and the students play in the gym - he ran the class smoothly, and made it look fun!! Long story short, I got the job. Then I came back to Bellehaven 13 years later as a teacher. Chip played a huge part of developing my love for education!

I still remember his contagious energy, and I feel it in the gymnasium -to this day- where he instilled a love of healthy living in students everyday. Chip will be deeply missed by the Bellehaven community!! ❤️

Chip was the best. His knowledge and kindness made him the perfect teacher. He will be greatly missed.
Norva and Jamie, my heart is broken for you. I have so many wonderful memories of Chip. Not only am I blessed to have worked with him for years, 2 of my own children had him as their PE Coach for all their elementary years. "Mr. Saltman" was truly a master teacher and mentor. He didn't believe in having students sit out from an activity as a punishment for their behavior, he believed in teaching them how to play and cooperate with others. He gave students responsibility and value by putting them in charge of the playground equipment, or working with younger students. He gave them confidence to get on stage and tell jokes at assemblies, or emcee school events. His students loved and respected him, and he contributed to a beautiful learning environment through kindness and respect. There were many meetings and situations where Chip would lighten the mood with a joke, and he was there as a friend in serious moments, too. Such a great man, your teaching family will miss you forever, Mr. Saltman.

Norva and Jamie,  my heart is broken as I saw Chip has passed.  We worked together at Riedling Music in Albuquerque.  Jamie, you babysat my daughter Kathryn.

Will miss him!  He was a caring friend and I am so sorry for your loss.

There is an expression, 'A life well lived' that embodies Chip Saltman.  For Chip, it was certainly reflected in all he accomplished, but more so in what he gave back to the world.  To you, his loving family, may you find some comfort in knowing these gifts live on in all of us.  While we were so blessed to have him in our world, there are no words to express how deeply we will miss our dear Chip.
Don and I were saddened to hear of Chip’s passing. We were neighbors, who knew him but briefly, yet knew him to be a sweet, kind hearted man.

My Cousin Bruce Harlan “Chipper” “Chip “ Saltman

Some of my earliest experiences with my cousin Chip were when we were around 4 years old. We used to visit Flint regularly where he lived and became very friendly as cousins. In the 50s we spent many summers along with our cousin Rick and other family relatives at our cottage in East Tawas, MI. We would fish together, catch minnows that we would sell to buy toys, go to the drive-in movies together and many other fun experiences.

Chip had a next-door neighbor whose nickname was “Bugsy” and he used to drive us on bumpy car rides together. He would remove the back seat from his car, we would sit on the metal floor, and he would drive on gravel roads. We thoroughly enjoyed that time together and had lots of laughs.

I loved watching you tap dance, playing ping pong, tennis, playing the piano, etc. as you always approached them with a will to exceed, enjoyment and do well.

Later in our early teen years we developed a deeper relationship. We shared personal issues and helped each other as best we could. We went to parties together and occasionally shared double dates.

We enjoyed spending many holidays together particularly Passover with all of the delicious food as well as Thanksgiving.

During our early college years, we lost touch a little bit, however I was honored to have been invited to his wedding to Norva. Norva was probably the best thing that ever happened to Chip.

We always stayed in touch. I remember one time when he was traveling with Norva and some friends, that I drove down to Los Angeles International airport to meet him for 45 minutes before his departure. We enjoyed even the short times we spent together.

Chip was a great audience for my sense of humor and he always enjoyed hearing jokes from me on our frequent phone calls. In more recent years Chip, our cousin Rick and I, went on a couple of excursions together on what Rick titled “Cousins Gone Wild.” We went to the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Old Town and many other places and had a wonderful time sharing and laughing together. The next time we traveled together we went to Aspen, CO and that was also a lot of fun just sharing and being together having lots of laughs.

Chip was warm, kindhearted, had a wonderful sense of humor, was compassionate and also a very caring and sensitive individual.

I shall miss talking to him, traveling with him, sharing experiences with him, hearing him laugh at my jokes, but most of all his love and friendship.

It has been said that you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your relatives. I'm happy that Chip was a relative and also very happy that we were dear friends.

May you rest in peace knowing that there were so many people that genuinely loved you and cared about you, all of the people whose lives you touched, friends, relatives and especially your loving wife Norva, daughter Jaimeson, granddaughter Presley, and son-in-law Reuben.

I love you and miss you.

Your cousin, Jeff

I grew up with Chip and Norva as my next-door neighbors and we were so lucky to have them as not just neighbors, but they truly were like family. Chip used to joke that he was going to call 911 on us. It became a running joke over the years. Truly an amazing and kind person who taught me these qualities at a young age. I was so sorry to hear this news, sending my love and hugs to you all.

Chip was so particular that he painted one door at his previous home in Albuquerque three times to get the right color of blue that he had in mind.

My dad and Uncle Chip used to tell people that they were twins, and that my dad was older by 11 years. Their similarities in looks, sense of humor, and personalities makes this really hard for me.

If you hear thunder, smile because god is laughing out loud at the verbal antics of those Saltman boys. I love you dad, uncle Bunny, uncle Chip, and uncle Brad

My memories of our growing up and times together are very special , happy, and treasured ones!! Chip will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a treasure  that are few and far between

Rest in peace our dear cousin.

Love Leslie and metv

Our hearts are broken that Chip has passed, but his memories live on.  What a fantastic human being - so much love, joy, and inspiration!!! ❤️
