Bruce's obituary
Bruce was born to Jack and Winifred (Renie) Miner on July 23, 1956 in Norfolk, Virginia. In the mid ‘60’s they moved to NC where Bruce excelled in school, participated in church witness missions, attended 4H Clubs (where he earned the national automotive award), and participated in drama and music venues of many kinds. Throughout his entire life, Bruce held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. His faith and love for God led him to pursue a deeper understanding of the scriptures and he attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Biblical Literature in 1978. Bruce later earned his Master of Divinity Degree in 1984, where his studies included Hebrew and Greek. He loved sharing his knowledge of the Bible, but even more living a life to please God and show God’s love to those around him. He was pursuing his second master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy before his diagnosis of LBD.
Bruce met his wife Teresa (Teri) in the fall of 1977 at Oral Roberts University. They spent a lot of time together as friends and spent countless hours with friends in fellowship through their faith. After over five years of growing through their faith and learning, they were married on December 5, 1982. Shortly after marriage Bruce and Teri served in the Western North Carolina Conference of Churches where Bruce was minster at several churches until 1986. They then moved to Northern Virginia for a few years before moving to Florida in 1991. It was there Bruce and Teri had their marriage blessed by the Catholic Church in April of 1992. Bruce had a deep passion for service through song and even had the pleasure of going to Rome with their church choir and singing before Pope John Paul II.
On their thirteenth wedding anniversary they were blessed with the adoption of their daughter, Alana, on December 5, 1995. She was truly God’s gift to them, born in the same hospital as Bruce in the same month. Bruce was a dedicated and loving father and we have many cherished memories of him playing the piano for Alana when she was a little girl and she would twirl endlessly in time to the music. He was actively involved in her school activities and regularly helping her with countless auditions and chorus and choir music along the way. He adored his daughter and was especially blessed with God’s strength to walk her down the aisle for her wedding before his condition progressed too far.
Bruce worked for the State of Florida, Department of Revenue, Child Support Enforcement for 21 years in Kissimmee, Orlando and Tallahassee before ultimately being forced to take early retirement as a result of his medical condition. He made countless friends through the years and was a dedicated, hard-working employee who loved what he did and the people he got to work with.
Bruce joins his mother, Winifred (Renie) and his brother, Jack Jr, in Heaven. He is survived by his wife, Teresa (Teri) Miner and daughter Alana Hand in Tallahassee, his father Jack, and his brothers, David and Mark in North Carolina.
