Professor Bruce Caswell
Bruce Caswell, 85, passed away on September 24th, 2021. Bruce was born in Recife, Brazil to Alick MacKenzie Caswell and (Hilda) Irene Rodway Caswell. Raised in Niteroi / Rio de Janeiro, Bruce was a part of both the Brazilian and British communities. He spent his high school years in Victoria, British Columbia and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in engineering. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University and joined the faculty at the University of California, Davis. In 1966 he joined the School of Engineering at Brown University, and resided in Rhode Island until his death.
He is survived by his wife Robin, his two daughters Alexandra (Claus Hofhansel) of Providence and Eloise (Donald Chandler) of New Zealand, and his sister June Bogue of Brazil.  He leaves five grandchildren: Franziska, Isaac, Eli, Peter, and Dana. He was the sister of the late Irene F Bennett of Brazil.  Bruce traveled extensively for his work and pleasure. In more recent times he and Robin enjoyed exploring the national parks in the West.
Their Maine cottage afforded him much pleasure for his love of nature, where he tended the ferns, trees, shrubs, and garden. He made extensive use of large rocks in his landscaping. There was always a carpentry project in process in his workshop in the barn. He enjoyed dancing, sailing, and a daily swim. He was a student of history and his knowledge on the subject was phenomenal.
Bruce was a kind and caring person with a great sense of humor and unfailing integrity. He will be sorely missed.
