Bruce's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Adams, loving husband, father, father-in-law,  grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many. Born on February 10, 1942, Bruce led a full and vibrant life until his sudden, peaceful passing resulting from a stroke, on March 11, 2023, with his wife and children at his side.

Bruce was born to Eileen (Blackwell) and Roy Adams in Toronto. He trained as a mechanic but was proficient in many things. He met the love of his life, Nora Lea, while ice skating at the Jolly Miller in Hogs Hollow (near York Mills and Yonge St in Toronto), and they spent 60 years working together as they built their family. They married in 1964 and welcomed a daughter and two sons together.

Bruce's family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend Nora, his his daughter Debbie Holmes and her husband Jeff and their two daughters Jordan and Taylor, his son Ron, and his son Troy and his wife Stephanie and their two sons Bradey and Jake. His love for his family was always his central focus, and his legacy lives on in them. His impact on those close to him is immeasurable and will continue to be felt for years to come.

A cherished member of the community, Bruce touched many lives with his helpful, friendly demeanor, and the distinct impression he left will not be forgotten. His love for people and the world around him was evident in everything he did, his infectious personality contributing to the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life. Bruce was ever the handyman, always busy making or fixing something, a testament to his love for staying active and involved.

An ardent sports enthusiast, Bruce's loyalties lay firmly with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Toronto Argonauts. His passion for games extended beyond spectatorship, as he relished in playing card games after dinner, engaging in summer lawn games like ladderball and catch (baseball, football, frisbee), and in recent years, games on his laptop. His love for leisure did not end there; Bruce was an avid fisherman and duck hunter and loved to play tennis and squash, and coach his sons hockey teams in his earlier years, pursuits he found great joy in.

Among the many causes close to Bruce's heart, none held higher priority than his family. His actions continually reflected this, his devotion to his loved ones forming an integral part of his character.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for Bruce will be held on October 21, 2023, at 1:00 PM at St. Paul's Anglican Church. It will be an afternoon to honor Bruce's memory and celebrate the life of a man who played such a pivotal role in so many lives.

In his passing, we remember a life lived fully, marked by kindness, love, and an enduring commitment to his family and community. His spirit lingers in the hearts of all who knew him. This is not a goodbye, but a thank you to Bruce for touching our lives in the profound ways he did.

In his memory, donations can be made to St Paul’s Anglican Church in Marmora.
