Brian's obituary
Brian Patrick Scanlon was born on March 23 1945, in Saint Paul, Minnesota to Richard and Lillian (Fitzmorris) Scanlon. He graduated from Harding High School in 1963 and joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed at RAF Lakenheath AFB, U.K.
Brian worked for many years as a route salesman for Wonder Bread and Hostess Cake. Brian had a heart for people of all ages; he was quick with a joke and always wore a smile. Brian loved his family, he loved his Minnesota church family, and his Texas church family. He loved music, dancing, and all sports. You never saw him without his coffee mug and a pocket full of cookies and gummies. He was willing to share, but look out for the pocket lint.
Brian's favorite song was Amazing Grace. He said it always amazed him that no matter how many mistakes he made and wrong turns his life took, he knew he was forgiven - washed clean by the saving blood of Jesus Christ. Brian was not afraid of death; he knew his last breath on earth would be his first breath in heaven. Brian died peacefully at home with his wife and many family members by his side.
Brian died May 30, 2025, at home at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Scanlon; Daughters Theresa (Stephen) Spells, JoAnn (Scott) Murray, Kirsten (Matthew) Youngren, Son Trevor (Jessica) Scanlon, and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his sister, Kathy Huber.
Brian is preceded in death by parents Richard and Lillian Scanlon, siblings Richard (Delores) Scanlon, John (Maxine) Scanlon, Sharon (Don) Mortenson, Dennis (Loretta) Scanlon, Patrick Scanlon, and Lenore Weiss.
Brian will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
A friend had this to say about Brian, “This man is truly one of God's special gifts. His love and kindness are given freely to those he knows and those he has met for a moment… and it's unconditional. His love for Mary has been his greatest joy. Only leaving her because he heard the whisperings of his God”.
