I was very saddened to learn of Brian's untimely passing. He was one of my favorite editors to work with at Tebra (previously Patient Pop), but beyond his skill, expertise, and professionalism, he was just a really nice person.
That's harder to convey over nothing but brief online exchanges, but Brian did just that — he was a supportive and accommodating editor, and I really enjoyed handing my work off to him. He never missed an opportunity to say something nice.
My condolences to his entire family. Please know that Brian will also be missed by many people who never met him in person, but interacted with him regularly.

I worked with Brian since 2005, starting at the Press-Enterprise and then when we both shifted to free-lance work at Tebra (formerly PatientPop), which supplies content for medical providers' websites. In both realms, Brian's work was first-rate. I first knew him as a page designer at the newspaper, and realized that his meticulous work carried over as a copy editor as well. There were three of us Brians at the P-E, even after the newspaper staff underwent numerous cuts in our latter years there. It was sometimes comical at the confusion it created when a reporter or editor wasn't sure who they were looking for! Likewise, in our all-online freelance work, writers and other editors often confused the two of us. I knew little about Brian away from work -- other than his love for USC sports ! -- but I'm not the least bit surprised to learn the depth of his character in his other pursuits. He is missed. My thoughts continue to go out to his family.

Brian was one of my favorite editors at Patient Pop/Tebra . I worked with him for more than six years and he was always quick to tell me when I did a great job. While we never spoke in person, I deeply appreciated his kindness. I am heartbroken to hear this news and send light and sympathy to Brian's family and friends.
