Brian's obituary
Brian Edward Houghton
Brian Edward Houghton, 79, passed away peacefully, in Calgary, Alberta, on 20 April 2023, with his sons at his side.
Brian’s last words to his sons: “I just need to know you’re going to be okay”. An epitome of Brian’s true character.
Brian is survived by his son, Matthew Houghton (Alana), granddaughters Alaila and Scarlett; his son, Michael Houghton, daughter Mikayla Houghton, and ex-wife Jean von der Lin.
Born to Eric Houghton and Adele (McCormick) on 31 March 1944 in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Brian completed a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary, was an avid skydiver, skier, enjoyed sailing, spending time with his family, and, above all else, doting on his granddaughters.
The oldest of five siblings, Brian also leaves behind brothers Terry (Halina) Houghton, Roger (Christine) Houghton, Randy Houghton, and close cousin and life-long friend, Sandra McCormick (Mike Delisle); as well as many nieces and nephews. Brian was sadly predeceased by his sister, Dianne Hammer (late Larry Hammer), who passed away in February of the same year.
Brian is best remembered by his family for his unconditional love, and his unfailing reliability when his family was in need; be it a loving hug, someone to talk to, or a ride home from a broken-down car (two provinces away, in the middle of the night); Brian stopped at nothing to be there, putting his family first, no matter the cost to himself.
Loving father, adoring grandfather, un-replaceable and forever missed.
