Brian's obituary
Brian Allen Burns, 57, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on January 26, 2023.
Brian was born on December 27, 1965 to Garl Burns and Ellen (Spencer) Burns in Champaign Illinois. Brian attended Unity High School in Tolono, Illinois for three years and transferred to Monticello Christian Academy for his final year. He graduated from the Academy in 1984 and went on to study at Marnatha Bible College in Watertown, Wisconsin. He then attended Parkland College in Champaign Illinois and completed a nursing degree.
Brian also served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. He began his nursing career at Carl Hospital in the ICU. Later, he moved to Salt Lake City, UT and worked as a traveling nurse.
In 1996, Brian and Mona married on July 20, 1996. In 1997, their daughter, Abby Burns, was born. Brian loved to take Abby swimming when she was young. The sound of her laughter brought him great joy. After divorcing Mona, Brian met and married Georgette Sawyer. Their daughter, Jade Burns, was born in 2000. Brian was extremely proud of both of his children.
Brian spent his free time lifting weights, bowling, playing cards and helping friends and strangers whenever he could.
Brian was preceded in death by his father Garl Burns, his mother Ellen Burns, his brother Gary Burns, his sister Kerrie (Burns) Whitton, his nephew Michael Burns and great niece Emmaleigh Burns. He is survived by his first wife, Mona, and their daughter, Abby, his second wife, Georgette, and their daughter, Jade, his eldest Brother Barry (Amy) Burns and his children Matthew (Teann) Burns, Kaitlynn Burns, Phillip (Kayla) Burns, and Sarah Burns. He is also survived by his older brother Kevin (Rachel) Burns with their children Seth Burns, Jordan (Brandi) Burns and Ryan (Taylor Lackie) Burns. Also surviving Brian are niece Libby Whitton and nephews Cohen Whitton and Michael Whitton as well as many great nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Sadorus, IL on June 11, 2023 at 2:00pm. Laying to rest after service at the O’Bryan cemetery outside of Parkville Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to help out with any funeral expenses Brian’s daughters may encounter. Anything additional will be donated to an organization Brian felt strongly about.
