Rather than face a world without Betty White, on January 19, 2022, Brian Joseph Buckman joined her on the other side. Brian passed away doing what he loved, gaming at his billboard-sized computer.

Brian was wickedly funny, sharp-minded, cantankerous, unabashedly authentic and humble. He always supported an underdog and was committed to standing up against unfairness. He was quick to crack a joke and loved Ricky Gervais and George Carlin. If you know their work it tells you plenty about Brian's worldview.

He enjoyed cooking and especially loved seafood and other staples from New Orleans, probably as a result of his time spent building houses in Florida and the Gulf. In his younger days, Brian enjoyed Zoology class, playing baseball, driving his green IROC, quibbling with his teachers, and a unique home ec class called “Bachelor Living” (which was really fortuitous of him). For the past 15 years, Brian worked as an IT specialist, with “some of the greatest folks he knew” and was lucky to work with people he considered friends. Brian loved animals (by far his favorite were wolves) and anything to do with nature and the outdoors. Some of his favorite moments were spent playing video games, supporting rugby teams from New Zealand, hunting, fishing, drinking hard cider, and watching the History Channel (or Discovery or Animal Planet). Legend has it that he once watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy so many times that it burned into the television background.

While Brian was fiercely private and individualistic, he loved his family, especially his son Caleb, who he was immensely proud of and happy to brag about.

Brian was preceded in death by his father, John Craig Buckman; and his step-father, Douglas Guyer. Brian is survived by his son Caleb Hearon, his mother Lilian Eskew and her husband Butch, his brother Travis Guyer, his sister Ashley Guyer and her husband Andrew Bernier, and nephews Joel and Elliot Bernier.

While he wanted a Viking funeral or to be shot out of a cannon (his words), his family reached a compromise and will spread his ashes at a few meaningful and symbolic places, including the family farm where he was raised. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to one of the following causes that he supported: the National Wildlife Federation or the Yellowstone Wolf Project (preservation and conservation work at Yellowstone National Park).
