Brett Marshall Smiley, Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the age of 44.

Brett was born November 19, 1980 in Emporia, Kansas and was adopted at birth by Byron and Patricia Smiley.

Surviving family members include his daughter, Kaleigha, his parents Byron and Patricia, brother, Bryon Smiley, grandmother Mary Smiley, all of Emporia, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Dale and Hellen Wilson and Max Smiley.

Brett loved the outdoors including fishing, swimming and hunting. He loved to draw. His relationship with his daughter was foremost and he loved her very much. He was very proud of owning his own company, Absolute Lawn Care, and worked very hard at it.

Brett was a graduate of Emporia High School and attended Emporia State University and Butler County Community College. His friends have described him as a kind and gentle soul. Many Sundays were spent going to church with his daughter.

Memorial contributions can be made to Brett's daughter, Kaleigha Smiley (1248 Rd. 137, Emporia) or to Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church.

A visitation will be held at Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church, Emporia, KS on Monday, March 11 from 6:30 - pm to 8:00 pm. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 12 at 11:00 am, also at Twelfth Avenue.
