@johnnyharpo johnny bailey - On Saturday November 9th, we lost Brett Corkill.

He was one of the best humans I’ve ever been lucky enough to know and one of my dearest friends. He was the type of person who would give you anything he had to help you, and at any time of day or night would be there to make sure you were okay. The type of friend who always had your back, encouraged your dreams and supported you. He had something good to say, when I didn’t (except for Disney era Star Wars), but would also call you out if you were full of it. An avid fan of music and comics, we shared many an adventure going to see the most amazing musical acts on Earth as well as going to San Diego Comic Con one Summer. My heart is simultaneously full and broken. To think that I was lucky enough to share so many amazing moments with such a tremendous person and devastated to know that he has left this realm. I was lucky enough to tell him I loved him and hold his hand before he passed, and that is a gift I’ll never lose. His last gift out of many he gave to me and I’ll cherish his memory and friendship forever. Truly, we were brothers.

To all of my many friends who were lucky enough to know him, crank some Beastie Boys, Pink Floyd, ELO, or any of the many great artists that he loved and join me in celebrating the life of Brett Corkill, Jr.

@tin.y888 Lorin Wagner - Love that man all the way

@dayshabase Daysha - He was funny, kind, and welcoming to a stranger and I won’t think of him without a giant smile of love and appreciation in my heart. This is awful news. I’m so sorry for everyone’s loss.

@milesurround Miles - Rest in peace Boba Brett. Thanks for sharing, that sucks. Sending you and all who loved Brett love.

@vanessaisamythmakeup Vanessa Saldaña - I’m so sorry. He was truly a great dude.

@peppe_dm77 Giuseppe Di Marzio - I was lucky to met him during my stay in Reno, I will always remember him! Rip Brett

@daddy_bingo Skylaar Lash - I was so lucky to spend countless afternoons/evenings talking music and superheroes with Brett. A true dynamo, the man was the epitome of Taste. Hello Nasty will be on repeat for the next month or so, who knows? Maybe it will never stop spinning

New Transmission Line Ensures Continued Reliability for Customers in Truckee Meadows

April 4, 2018

When a new large customer announced it was building a facility in East Reno, the benefits to the northern Nevada community would be added jobs, economic development and continuing to establish Reno as a thriving technology destination.

In order to ensure the new facility and customers in the Spanish Springs area would continue to receive from NV Energy what is among the most reliable service in the nation, a new, 120kV transmission line was added from East Tracy to the Pah Rah substation.

“With load increasing we needed to make transmission-level upgrades to maintain reliability of that load growth for the region,” said Luis Garcia-Perez, P.E., Project Manager. “This upgrade helps maintain reliability of the grid as that area grows.”

One of the biggest challenges for this customer-driven project was to get this new line in service fast enough to support the load growth. The project began in Sept. 2016 and the line was energized in Nov. 2017.

As part of this project crews used a 1.5 inch diameter aluminum conductor with a special composite core that helped conduct a larger amount of energy that needed to be run through the wires. This was only the second time NV Energy had used this size cable.

“Our crews did a small section with a test pull to see how they would string the wire,” he said. “We had to rent equipment to pull this cable as it’s a bigger gauge wire.”

This project also helps play a key role in supporting economic development in northern Nevada for both business growth and residential growth.

Connecting a group of unique, driven individuals committed to excelling in the classroom but making sure we didn't take ourselves too seriously. Brett brought us together that day. Happy to have played a role in preserving these memories.

2001 8th Grade class project at Hoover Dam. Filmed by Tomas Reyes. Featuring Brett Corkill, Faun Ginac and Richard Reyes. Thank you to Andrew Reyes for finding this video in 2025, which I had digitized from VHS many years ago and assumed was lost to history. Presented in memory of my fallen friend, Brett.

Growing up, Brett Corkill was the one person you could always count on from group projects, hanging out during parties or for a smile when I was feeling blue.

Brett gave a lot of his time to others, hosting events and connecting people. In junior high, we went to the Hoover Dam together for a project. We sat at the same lunch table and shared many of the same classes. I remember in high school, he was on a first name basis with our US History teacher, Mr. Johnson and his Big Beat Battalion band. Brett is loved by all who knew him.

Let’s go out in to the world today and leave it better than we found it. Brett did. Rest easy, my friend.

I know Brett would have rather seen 007's Aston Martin!
